If you find a case thats horizontally or vertically mirrored to a case you have an algorithm for, how do you change the algorithm for it to work?

I mean Like for this case:

Can you tell me how to do it myself?

ok that site worked, the alg is
R2 D' R2 D2 y' R2 D' R2

but whats the theory behind it?

Can you link me to a good site for that?

no

This is just a case of general cube understanding.
Don't worry, it comes with time and practice :)

The case(s) you presented are the same case, just with different colors.
In PBL this is:
U Adjacent swap, D adjecent swap; set up with "two bars in front"

As far as mirroring algs goes: check Chris' pages on Speedcubing.com. There should be a great page on translating algs.

For simple L / R mirrors: just perform your regular alg but with the other hand :)
I do this with N, J, T, U and A-perms

Edit: as you're quite new to all this I'll play nice and provide the link to Chris' page:
