Ok I've had my ES 5x5 for quite some time now, but now im realizing that it is waaaaaaaaaaay too loose and it pops way to easily. So I figured the screw must be loose. When I went to pop out a center cap, and tried tightening the screw, it didn't budge one bit. I tried every screw on the ES, but none would want to move. Can anyone please tell me whats wrong?

SAme think happens to me, Well have you ever dissaembled it?

Because when i got my 5x5 i dropped it and re assembled and tighten screws all the way and its still loose.

They get too loose. The only way to fix it is to file them down so they're not loose any more. Kenneth told us how to fix them, and I can honestly say it works great:

1, take the cap of one centre and remove the screw.

2, now you can hold the layer together and lift it of and place it as is on the table besides the cube.

3, use a file to grind down the tip of the spider some 1-2 mm (put a piece of stiff paper around the spider tip so the small plastic pieces you file of don't gets into the cube.)

4, put the layer back on and replace the screew + cap.

5, do the same for all sides.

After that you can adjust the tension as much as you like, even to a compleatly stiff cube.

I did this to my Es-5, that was too loose, some days ago and it is extreamly good now

While the cube is apart spray a load of silicone into it...
Note that you only need to lift off the top single layer, and it holds together pretty well. So you can do this whole thing in about 20 minutes. And you'll have a much nicer cube.

I read the original thread on this and was very interested. I have always held of buying a ES 5x5 because they are reviewed as detoriating too quickly for my liking. Does this fix kinda solve that problem? Shame one can't do the same thing on a ES 4x4.

I'd say that's the best description: it kinda solves the problem. The cube wasn't perfect (for me, at least) after doing it, but it is MUCH better than before the fix. And the fix lasts for quite a while - I haven't done it twice to a cube yet.

I actually opened up my 4x4x4 to try to see if it's possible, but it just isn't, I'm afraid (it would require some fancy tools to file the proper part alone, I think). But if you work hard at adjusting the screws on a 4x4x4, you can improve it a bit, usually. The problem with that is that it doesn't last that long.
