I use Fridrich on 2x2, and it's slow as heck. I am going to learn Ortega or Stern-Sun. Which one should I learn? If I learn Ortega I would migrate to SS anyway, so I'm wondering if Ortega is even worth learning?

I use fridrich on 2x2 and my best average on cubemania was 5.78s. you need to optimize the algs to be fast :D my normal average is about 7 to 8s :D
for pll you can use either J or A to switch 2 corners (i use both depending on position), E or Y to switch all corners Y in this case is faster :D

Ortega is very easy to learn. The algs are very few and you will already know a few of them as they are OLL's. I learned it but I am still faster with LBL+some COLL.
Edit: is the SS method available anywhere? I did a google search and found only a link to this forum saying it won't be publicized until Timothy breaks the WR... What is the SS method exactly? Is that the face minus one + optimized CLS +PBL?

Ortega only takes about 5 minutes to learn. You will be slower the first maybe 30 solves because you need to recognize 3 more different permutations. That is all. Then, It becomes a bit faster than Fridrich.
I never did Fridrich except on heise sim, which I can average 6-7 seconds. But on a real cube, that's probably more like 9-10 seconds. Now I average about 8-9 with Ortega with best average 7.80 this morning. Easy cases are much more common with Ortega.

I looked at SS and see few differences between that and Ortega. Is learning a list of algs for last slot worth it? what is it, like a reduction of 0-3 moves?
