Which 2x2 method should I learn?

for someone that doesnt want to learn alg, LBL is easy... if you know how to solve the 3x3 with LBL, the method is the same. if you know how to solve with fridrich, it is will be only slightly different
1. make a face of any color, or try to make a layer. advance making a layer is making a face and learning 2 simple alg for adj swap and opp swap to make a layer from the face. you can PM me if you are interested
2. OLL (you only need to know the COLL cases, like a 2LOLL so, 7 or 8 cases? cant remember lol)
3. PLL can only be T (or J), or Y perm (or solved).
there are special shorter alg for the OLL and PLLs, since there is less to deal with... but i reccomend ortega. i only learned 3 more simple algs and i can sub 5 with it.
ortega.
1. make a face
2. OLL the opposite face
3. permute both layers
i cheat with ortega because im lazy to learn a lot of algs. there are some slow cases in which i have to cube rotate. you can learn algs for it, but i find it easier to cube rotate since im lazy... (Y or J perm on bottom, or adj swap on bottom/opp swap on top)
i also have not seen mentioned that it is very crutial to be color neutral on the 2x2. find the easiest case on inspection. this will require you to know the color scheme of your cube... mainly just opposites (which you should already know, probably)
to go all out, go CLL.

Bluecloe: Ortega is very easily sub10, the only practice required is learning the PBLs (which is only 5 cases). In the event you don't know OCLL's for 3x3, you have to learn those too, I suppose.

maggot: It's actually OCLL :P COLL is CLL for 2x2 :P

Guimond is fast, so is SS. If you want the "easiest" way of doing it, solve it like you would a 3x3. You said with no algs, but I think you meant no *new* algs. I imagine you use some sort of algorithm (RDRD or OLL / something). Ortega is able to be sub5 as well. Learn to predict corner orientation from making your first face (is generally pretty easy), learn what the OLL alg you use does to your corners (permutation wise) and just note what permutation you have on your bottom layer (it'll be T/Y and you'll have T/Y on top, the combination of the two makes up a total of 5 algs to learn).

If you want easiest, learn ortega (or solve the 2x2 like a 3x3. You can solve a 2x2 sub10 using CFOP method on 2x2). If you want fastest, learn CLL (I suppose, but I guess really this is debatable). If you want easy and fast, learn ortega. If you want faster than ortega but less effort than CLL, learn Guimond. If you want just a hair faster but even more effort learn SS. David Woner is incredibly fast at 2x2 and knows SS (or most of it anyhow).

If you want easy and fast, learn Ortega. I can do 6.xx large averages with it and I'm not that great of a cuber. Technically there are 5 PBL cases; if you want to be faster and minimize setups/rotations there are a few more cases you can learn. Ortega can be 2-look; you can predict OCLL and bottom layer permutation without a ridiculous amount of practice, so then all you have to recognize in the middle of the solve is top-layer permutation, for which recognition can be instant.

Yea I'm just about as fast with lbl as i am ortega. It just sucks when i get y perm. I suck at it, even with the "good" 2x2 alg for it.
It also sucks when you get the Pi OLL cause the lbl alg isn't as awesome as the EG1 alg R' F R2 U' R2' F R.

or just do LBL on 2x2.

But... LBL is stupid on 2x2!

[wiki]Ortega[/wiki] is 3 extra algs and one is the long and complex R2 F2 R2, the other two are 7 moves each, for the rest you can use the same algs as for LBL.
If you solve the first layer compleatly (wich is harder than doing the face only in Ortega) you will have the two hardest permutations each time. The only good thing with LBL in comparsion is that permutation skips 1:6 (1:36 for Ortega).

Thanks guys, I read all of your replies and they were really helpful. To clear one thing up I never solved or tried to solve a 3x3, I have literally no cubing knowledge. I ended up choosing Guimond for now and see how it goes, its a little complicated (for me) because all the cube notations and terminology takes some time to get used to.

I have just ordered a 2x2 cube as well and i didn't want to make a new thread so i will just ask here. Who have got the world record on 2x2 average of 5? What method does he use?
As i have understood CLL is the fastest method(?). How many algs do i have to learn for CLL? Any recommended tutorials?

Its feliks zemdegs who got it recently. I dont know his method, probably CLL/EG

EDIT: CLL and EG algs -----> http://www.speedcubing101.com/cll.html

Very useful video for begginers ----------> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FMqxPl4LS4

Most of the top 2x2 cubers uses [wiki]CLL[/wiki] (40 cases) and all recent world records has been with CLL. But it is not always the fastest method, for being advanced it is relativly easy to learn but if you like to put in a lot more effort and really learn [wiki]EG[/wiki] (120 cases, 1:3 is the same as CLL) it is probably even faster. But nobody has gotten that far yet, it takes years to get EG to become 100% fluid.

Also other really advanced methods are possible...

(the inline links to the wiki gives you descriptions and the pages has got futher links to other pages with algs)
