Do you have bad solving days? How do you deal with bad times?

Pizzaguy? How can you be slower than me!? Dude, I go slow, look ahead on a cube that always gets stuck and cannot go over 2-3tps on fastest algs and and still average 28-35 seconds. On ryanheise sim, I get about 25 average. That does sometimes happen to me, but I usually have an explanation. Like on ryanheise sim, I occasionally average in the high 20s, because I was learning algs at the same time. However, on the real cube, that happens more extremely. Quite a few times, I got 15 second F2L, and Felt that I got easy OLL and PLL and I did not stop and went pretty fast and end up with a 40 second solve. Right after wards, I did not grip the cube as hard and just not really cared and got ~26 second solves. Try using ryanheise.com. I sometimes do bad on that but good on real cube and vice versa.

Maybe you should take a break? I averaged maybe 22-23 at the beginning of last summer, and then didn't cube all summer because of camp and stuff. Then, when I got back home, I ordered new DIY's, and my first average was an 18.xx. That is a rather large un-improvement if you feel you're not doing anything differently...

OMG!!

i figured out why i suck. the timer was defective! i tested it and it moves nearly 1 1/2x faster than it should! haha

well... that explains a lot :)
thanks, from now on whenever my times are slightly higher I will have to compulsively make sure that the timer is correct

it actually made me faster! while i thought i was sucking, i was training hard to beat 20 seconds on this thing [which is about 13.5 seconds]. now that i cubes with a good timer, my times are like 15s. haha

oh, and here's the timer:

Hmm. The WCA might care for this. We don't want defective timers in competition (not too slow, disadvantaging a competitor - or too fast, giving them an automatic boost)...
Let's hope we don't see more of this happening...

Er, don't you mean slow timer= advantage, fast timer= disadvantage?

It sorta happened at the Toronto Open Winter 2008, a timer shut off or something, I don't know what exactly happened, but the person needed an extra attempt because of the timer malfunction.

I get that allot, like, when I don't cube for a few days, then I go back, it's like, woah, wait, what happened? I just either take a break for a couple more days or cube like crazy until I get back to my old self.

What's sad about it though, is these "terrible" times your getting now, is what I average on a normal day, haha. -_-

Ha, lol! the problem is solved. Yesterday, I had similar problem, but not a defective timer. I was suddenly averaging over 40 on my real cube, but got on ryanheise sim and averaged 23. Now, I'm back to about 30 after lubing my cube.

try and do a slow turning averag it really teaches you to look ahead.

Do you realise that you just bumped a thread that is 3 months old? You've done this to heaps of others as well. I'm not an authority on this forum, but please stop! There is no need to comment in any thread more than a couple of weeks old unless you specifically want to bump it for a good reason.

Bad cubing days?

How often do you guys have really bad cubing days? where your average just goes up about 5 seconds. I'm having that right now. it sucks. so what do you guys do when this happens to you?

Everyone has bad days. If I'm having a bad session or day cubing, I'll usually just put my cube down and pick it up later.

For the past 2 days, I cubed soooo much, that my middle finger started to get sore. (From U2 turns, which I use copious amounts of U turns.) Then it started aching, and then today, like, the pain was so annoying that I didn't feel like cubing anymore.

It was a really bad day for cubing. d:
