this year i have taken a big break from cubing here is why. with all competitions being canceled i dont really see the point in me forcing myself to practice, without comps cubing is just a repetitive task which is boring. comps give me something to work towards but now that all comps are canceled cubing is just boring for me. leave your thoughts below and how you are feeling about cubing without comps

Something same here. Two comps in my region got cancelled due to this pandemic. But cubing in itself is so fun that I don't get bored of it. Try learning some new events and see this pandemic as an opportunity to improve yourself for you next comp as the coronavirus won't last forever. I finished my 3-style corners and about 80% of the edges during this lockdown period.

Tru but that doesn't mean the spirit of cubing is dead! You can take part in this virtual competition: https://discord.gg/ccjbqrv

But competitions will resume in a few months I believe, and you can always talk on here.
Particularly with smaller online competitions, you can socialise a lot through things like Discord.

It’s actually motivated me quite a bit to explore aspects of cubing other than speed. While I’m more of a hobbyist solver and puzzle enthusiast and less of a hard core speed cuber i can see how not having the comp makes grinding and deliberate practice hard.
During all my years distance running Ive learned that I definitely work the hardest when I have a race on the schedule...so I feel ya!

Try learnIng something new, that’s what’s really kept me interested through this time.

This quarantine has actually motivated me more than demotivated me. Now that I know there won't be comps for a long time, I'm not afraid to learn some new things. Before, if there was a comp coming up, I would have to not learn any new stuff because it could mess me up for the comp. But now, I have the freedom to do more long term things like I wouldn't be able to do before. Another thing is I have been at home more than usual, which give me more time to practice. I definitely understand what you mean about how the lack of comps is demotivating you, and I have felt that at certain points too. What I would recommend is to reach out to some of your cubing friends from comps, whether via discord, or email, or text message, or whatever, and talk to each other. A good mindset to have is to say "The long break from competitions means I can redefine myself as a cuber and do things I couldn't do before" instead of "The long break from competitions means that cubing is pointless". I hope this helps! :)
