Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

Idea:remove traditional reactions and make a little textbox where you can add 5 letters or less, or any emoji you want. And make it decided by the user whether its a good or bad reaction.
So nobody has even posed the question as to whether this is possible with XenForo?

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about here.
This is definitely a case of disconnect between people who use the forums as an IRC type platform and those who use it like a proper forum. I also have no idea what this gibberish keyboard smudging is referencing. It's not a case of "most people would get the joke" and you're just ducking the slug. It's a case of a loud minority of users who use the forums as a way of keeping up with Joneses and actually checking in on individual members and their messages. I disconnected from that forum conduct, of which I was a big part of if anyone remembers the Duck revolution, whenever I stopped speedsolving and I don't recognise 75% of the active members here. Expecting everyone to understand their in-group crack is blatantly nescient.

It's not necessary for you to explain it to me, but - just for my own curiosity to see if most people would get the joke as you say - I posted your reply into both ChatGPT and Perplexity. They didn't know what it meant either.(Insert appropriate emoji.)

Using generative chat programs to defend your position. How clever! That is definitely the most effective way of conducting human discourse. That's awesome, mon frère
(insert emoji face wearing sunglasses)

To actually contribute to a constructive conversation relevant to the purpose of this thread, versus contributioning only to cluttering squabbles/chatter, I'll share my thoughts on reaction usage:
I believe the current system is fine enough and offers some diverse emojis to use as a means of recognition. I saw someone suggest the crying and the skull emoji. A crying emoji would be redundant as there is already a sad frowning emoji. If you mean it sarcastically, as in "crying with laughter", there is the laughing emoji. As for the skull emoji, that is an internet meme. Many people, including myself, have no idea what that emoji, as a reaction, is supposed to represent.
Maybe someone could explain to me why skull emoji would be a worthwhile addition.

As for leaving comments as a reaction. Sweet! You reinvented the reply system! If you have something to add to someone's statement, be that criticism, praise, further context, etc., share your words with a proper message! Reaction emojis are used either to recognise a quality post (like/love) or when your reaction to that post isn't of enough substance to create your own post. You know, like, to avoid clutter.

So nobody has even posed the question as to whether this is possible with XenForo?
Good question. Is there anyone knowledgeable enough to answer?

But the main point is, we’re not trying to make this forum into some social media platform.
It is. Definitively. What "we" (the group that would like to treat SS like a proper forum versus a glorified chat room) aren't trying to "make this forum" is, as stated, a glorified chat room. Profile posts offer a fantastic way of personalising your experience and have random conversations with other members that doesn't disrupt dedicated threads! I feel like a lot of people miss fail to bring this up when discussing the differences between the two camps. We already have the solution.

I understand you're tryna get your point across but that's kind of a low blow.
I was going to make the joke that most cubers are 14 years old so dumb quips shouldn't be a surprise, but that user is literally 14. Case in point.

What actually annoyed me is that he got fussy over the little joke, getting mad about it being gibberish. Especally with the whole “back in my day” additude.
So we're advocating for free-typing gibberish now? Definitely not.

If it were up to me I'd get rid of all reactions and all emojis. OK, you can maybe keep "like" at a push.
He was the one who escalated it by acting all high and mighty when I had just included a joke inside my proof of concept.
I understand you're tryna get your point across but that's kind of a low blow. I don't think it's necessary to insult someone who doesn't get a joke.
I do get that this is a low blow, but he escalated it, so i returned the energy; plus, as stated, I wasn’t annoyed about him not getting the joke, I actually understand him not getting the joke. I was annoyed about how he responded and acted.
I don’t care if I’m technically in the wrong; I don’t need everyone’s approval.
P.S. About the duck revolution thing, I used to be a duck back in 2022.
P.P.S. I already told him what the joke was btw.

Please may we somehow discourage double posting @pjk? See here for a discussion, and here and also here.

And yeah, I have no idea what wgar means and I think people should realise that this isn't Discord, it's an internet forum. Use that instead, unless you're under 13, then you should be making the most of your carefree childhood. In fact, you should make the most of your carefree childhood as much as possible, even after you're 13.

A forum is a type of social media.
I think what @AhsanDaCuber125 means is he doesn't want this to become like TikTok and Instagram reels. I think he means he wants the forums to be accessible for people who like solving puzzles. Not just another app that's basically a foreign language for older people or people who aren't in touch with trends.

:v Just making this clear.

i feel like having a thread dedicated to the forum rules would be a good addition. Many new members dont really get what “bumping” means, plus some other rules. I think the rules should be on the home page at all times so that new members won’t be asking, “what is bumping?” and some other related subjects.
This issue has been raised and resolved
Many members are unfamiliar with the Forum Rules. I would suggest that on signing up to the website, members are automatically redirected to the page. Additionally, the page is somewhat hidden, and not easy to find- perhaps relocating it to a new location within the menu would help?
