Community Feedback: how can the site improve?

once a month is stupid ngl, it should be once a year. like ur just gonna see someone be a username, and then they change it every month? what the heck
Who cares how often you can change it. We just want the ability to change it for free users. One month was just a suggestion. Plus, it’s what is used in many games and services; Minecraft, for example

In defense of the forums, you have to pay for base Minecraft iirc, so a name change once a month is fine. The forums are free tho, if the forums wants money, then allowing free users monthly name changes when the premium is only slightly better at allowing changes “whenever you want”, then there is not a lot of incentive to get premium. If name changes should be allowed for free users, I agree with Ahsan that it should be done very infrequently

I would add a sob and skull reaction

if free name changing does get added, i also agree that it should be done rarely.

Idea:remove traditional reactions (keep Like) and make a little textbox where you can add 5 letters or less, or any emoji you want. And make it decided by the user whether its a good or bad reaction.
That's actually a very good sounding implementation, especially considering that there are recreations of every single emoji on the forums

So we're advocating for free-typing gibberish now? Definitely not.

If it were up to me I'd get rid of all reactions and all emojis. OK, you can maybe keep "like" at a push.
The wgar thing was just a joke about fes… Most people would get the joke, but i guess you don’t.
Also, if you didn’t agree, a simple “nope” or X emoji in my proposed system would be able to completely replace your response.

One problem is that many times, when people leave a negative reaction on a post in the forums, the poster might ask “@randomperson, why did you give an eyes up emoji” and then randomperson ends up giving their explanation anyway.

Also, I think compared to positive feedback, there is more to say when giving negative feedback. If there’s a post that you fully agree with, there is not much to say except “I agree”, or “I agree with you because (pretty much everything OP already said)” this type of response can be simplified to a like reaction. Compared to something that you disagree with, where you have the opportunity to give new sources, or give new counterpoints. “A simple ‘nope’” would not be able to “completely replace” Stoic’s response

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about here.

It's not necessary for you to explain it to me, but - just for my own curiosity to see if most people would get the joke as you say - I posted your reply into both ChatGPT and Perplexity. They didn't know what it meant either.

(Insert appropriate emoji.)

It’s a joke about how fes misspells “what”. Most people on this forum know about the joke. I guess you are an old-timer so you don’t get our newgen jokes.
