Changes to the WCA event list.

I cannot agree with this decision at all. After like 20 years, Clock was finally picking up interest as an event. New methods have been developed in the past few years, and the times for it were dropping rapidly. More and more people were taking interest in and beginning to learn the event. But, at the peak of its popularity and resurgence, the WCA just has to go and kill the event. One of the worst decisions they have ever made in my opinion.

Also clock has a lot more reasons to be removed than 5bld
It may have more reason to be removed than 5BLD, but it still shouldn't be removed.
If we were to go back to the creation of the WCA and decide which events to add, I NEVER would have considered Clock. But in its current state, Clock has had so much improvement in hardware and methods in the past few years that have completely revitalised the event that it makes absolutely no sense to remove it. It would take away thousands of solvers' main event and thousands more who enjoy the event but aren't as fast. Moyu just announced their own Clock, we were finally getting more viable Clocks from different brands, but if we keep moving towards removing Clock, then we won't be able to see as much development into better Clocks. There has just been too much of a resurgence of Clock to have it removed now. If they really wanted to remove Clock, then they should've done it years ago, before the Qiyi Clock was ever thought about and before 7-Simul ever existed, when everyone hated organising Clock and the hardware was horrendous. They couldn't have picked a worse time to announce its removal, especially with their self-made drama surrounding the Worlds podium and people's growing anger towards the WCA as a whole when it comes to Clock.

The removal of clock is rather confusing to me. While I don't enjoy clock all that much, it has certainly become a somewhat popular event recently. Additionally, I don't see much harm in simply letting it remain, as delegates could decide whether or not they want it in their competitions. At least for the times I have competed in clock, it has sometimes slowed the competition schedule by a bit, but that is typically the extent of it, and clearly some people like the event enough to keep including it in competitions.

I saw the wca post on Instagram and was excited for fto but I hope the clock decisions gets revoked, many people have put incredible amounts of time and effort into the event.

The poor QiYi employee in charge of making and selling those random colour variation clocks knows his days are numbered

What the fate of clock will be, only time can tell

I mean talk about terrible timing

I guess the WCA just decided it was time for a change

It came as a shock but we all knew clock was on borrowed time

The WCA board finally wound down the clock

Clock solvers around the world are alarmed

I could go on

I don’t see the point of this because if organizing clock is difficult, just don’t organize a comp with clock 🤷‍♂️ . But anyway who really cares it’s just a piece of plastic after all

Dang even the WCA government is getting corrupt

In what FING world is clock a better event to remove than 5BLD or 7x7, or better yet remove no FING events at all (which is what participants favored in the poll), overall incredibly disappointed in the WCA and just another example of WCA executives being out of touch with the community. I feel incredibly sorry for the clock community which was finally becoming more mainstream in cubing only to be crushed by the WCA.

RIP Moyu clocks. Wonder how many thousands of them they made ahead of time, only for it to suddenly be removed.

As for clock popularity? Clock has more competitors than 8 other events, including sq1.
But it does sort of make sense to remove it, since it's not a twisty puzzle or cube type puzzle of any kind, as well as problems mentioned in the announcement.
Yeah, it was an original Rubik's puzzle, but so were Magic and Master Magic and they were removed 13 years ago. Surprised clock wasn't removed at the same time.

It also says 7x7 and 5BLD are potentially subject to future changes, as they're just too similar to 6x6 and 4BLD. Heck, you could say that about 6x6 vs 5x5, too. So, remove 6x6, 7x7, and 5BLD.

This is unfair. Throughout the EON that clock has been in the WCA, this is absolutely the worst time to remove it. It’s just so disappointing the WCA would decide to remove clock in the rapid recent change of scene it has been in, and for them to trick us and say “Zoink! *Takes your main event away* haha!”. This isn’t a W popoff—its an L skibidi.

What we should do last time with the Yiheng sliding situation is we should riot. But more than that. We should create a group called “TCD” (the clock devotees) and make a tidal wave, or maybe even bigger, a tsunami of hate, so we can force the WCA to bring clock back. The riot will be a bloodbath.

They say a man’s best friend is a doggie, and also that a clocker’s best friend is a clock, so a clocker would have grief if clock was removed, which the WCA for some reason didn’t consider. What a great digital descent in WCA history. It’s very disappointing.

But now, we shall work on getting clock back. As a cubing society, we shall create TCD and riot. At 100% speed of what we’re doing right now, does this look possible? No. We need to have a W popoff and work together to stop this madness and the fight between us and the WCA will be like a stereo. We can do this! We have not win, but we can do this! I believe in our artificial ascent!

The final sum of all wca staff and normal cubers did vote out as clock to removed.
That's not quite accurate. The majority wanted no event to be removed including the VAST majority of the community (non-WCA staff). The result you're referencing was what event should be removed *if* an event were to be removed.

They are 100% correct there
They're really not. Clock is not at all difficult to run. It requires no special hardware or equipment thanks to the pin requirement changes. It's not hard to scramble - certainly much easier to scramble accurately than sq1, 5x5, mega, 6x6, and 7x7 - and it's not hard to judge. And it's no less spectator-friendly than something like 2x2 where it's over before you blink.

And 2x2 has had waaaaaaaaaaaay more issues than clock.

Just adding this, they did not listen to the results of the poll; it is the WCA executives that are going against pretty much everyone else.
It's just like the Yiheng sliding incidents, where only a few people in the WCA don't want to remove the results or only want to implement frame by frame for future results. It was not the choice of the vast majority of the WCA but instead only a few people going over everyone else to make it happen. But as we saw with sliding, ignoring literally everyone saying otherwise did not go over well, and the WCA ultimately did the right thing and followed the vast majority and took down Yiheng's sliding results. I believe we might see a similar thing happen here, since they also went against the poll they made for this very reason, as well as the people who would understand this more than anyone else.
So if you want to try to fix this misuse of power, then be sure to sign the petition and voice your concern in the community, but be respectful, as we are still dealing with real people.

EDIT: Additionally, more people voted for the removal of 5BLD than Clock, so take that as you will.

Thank you!

If any had to be removed, I would say skewb, 7x7, 4bld, and 5bld should've gone first. Skewb is not that exciting, 7x7 is close to 6x6 and 5x5, and so few people compete in 4bld and 5bld it might as well be an unofficial event. Clock wasn't a good event to be added and I don't care much about it personally but I don't think it was justified to remove it
