Well I am starting to work on the Petrus method as I really like that method and I seem to be understanding the block building fairly well. I have also been working on keyhole regarding my other thread but that's another story :)

I have barely been working on Petrus and I am sure I use a lot of extra moves to move things around, but my F2L average so far on 4 F2L solves is 1 min 22 seconds. I am reading 3LLL off of a piece of paper and still trying to get that memorized but I haven't timed my 3LLL yet as I feel most of the time is going to be shaved off my working on F2L.

Is this a really bad start for Petrus F2L? Any tips on block building or the Petrus method in general?

Make sure you practice looking ahead, that is by far the most time reducing aspect of petrus, probably more important than merging steps with shortcuts. Just practice F2L as much as you can and work on building your first block from all angles, that will help the most.

If you need help with petrus you can add me to MSN [email protected]

If you find yourself using an excess of moves, remember that it's OK to break up your current block to move pieces/pairs into place, as long as you can restore it in one move. Petrus's F2L is more flexible than Fridrich and other methods, but eyeing pieces around the cube is sometimes difficult. You're not doing bad so far, as long as you improve consistently.

Did you just start this month?
If so, that's a really interesting (and surprisingly fast) progression!!! (Especially with Petrus; I HATED it when I started, I went for Dan Knights' Intermediate Solution, using Sune to orient corners and learning EPLL)

I haven't switched over to Petrus yet (since I suck at the EO step after the 2x2x3 block), so my times are still in the high 40s, low 50s (but I've been cubing since Dec. '08), so I probably won't be of much help, but here goes:

When you're block building, be sure to not just watch your final product or YOUR OWN ONE PATH, but look for shortcuts. Especially when you're doing the first 2x2x2 block, you have the entire cube to use (all 6 faces), so there's no need to "not use" a specific side, even if it messes up something you already finished. In fact, in some cases it could be FASTER to screw it up and reposition it correctly with the pieces!!

As for your 3LLL, if you can get the entire 3LLL (2-look OLL, 1-look PLL) before a month, I will be insanely amazed. It took me 2 1/2 months to understand all of the PLLs, and I still mess them up sometimes. o_o

Yeah I have only been doing Petrus for roughly 2 weeks. I just went through 4 more F2L solves on the Rubix timer and here are the new results so far, an average of 1 minute 8 seconds, a 14 second drop! I don't know if it was luck but hey its better.

A good idea for maybe improving faster would be to time each step separately, so you can focus on problem areas.

i.e. time the following separately
- step 1: 2x2x2 block
- step 2: 2x2x3 block
- step 3: EO
- step 4a: + block (1 F2L and 1 cross edge)
- step 4b: last F2L pair

So you can easily see which step you're having most trouble with and work on it. At least that really helped me a lot in improving really fast in Fridrich CFOP (although you can't really break down the F2L into further steps than cross + 4 F2L steps...unlike Petrus which has a lot of different steps in F2L than you can work on separately. Although there's the advantage of having to improve only F2L and nothing else, and the improvement has a four-fold effect so it's probably 4x faster and easier... it seems more fun if there's more different things to learn than just drilling one single thing that you do 4 times which eventually gets a bit boring)

Hi All, i'm a petrus solver i'd like help pointing me to solve faster. I'm now at 36sec average using petrus beginner method (niklas-eve, sune-rev sune, allan- but changed it to A perm). what should I work on? and uh.. I always start making the same block every solve, since i'm totally bad at recognizing (is this a bad thing?)

well yeah, i'm bad at recognizing color, but should i do start block on any color or just improving my recognizing? if just improving recognition i am doing that, just not really sure if that was the best solution.

Well If anyithing, be willing to atleast make one of the 4 blocks on the whiteside. Once comfortable with that Then move you Yell as well. Y/W neutrality is all you really need.
