[Help Thread] Algorithm Memorization Discussion

I don't, I type them on a paper and keep solving the cube using them until I can solve it without looking at the paper.

But I also give them a sense of logic so it becomes easier. For example:

U R U' L' U R' U' L - some corner moving algorithm for beginners method. I think in my head that the U keeps alternating back and forth, and between those, you move both sides upwards, and then both sides downwards.

Many of the OLL algorithms are just sledgehammer/sexy a certain amount of time with front face turns surrounding them, or something like that.

Easiest algorithm I ever learned was this H-perm: R2 U2 R U2 R2 U2 R2 U2 R U2 R2
I didn't actually have to memorize it, I just looked at someone do it once, and now I can do it without even thinking about it. Didn't have to read it more than once.

Pretty much the same as ElectricDoodie.
I see the permutation and my hands just lead the way. I don't really "know" the alg. in my head, I just do them. Kind of sucks because I can't do PLL attacks.

Yep. You said you do it like me, and I have that same problem as you.
No PLL Attacks for me.

Yeah, I just keep repeating the algorithm until I memorize. I usually only have to repeat it like 10 or so times until I can have it down to a decent speed. The problem is, on cubes like 7x7, sometimes I will forget the algorithm halfway through, and I'll mess up, which sucks a lot.

Which ones are you having trouble with?
Most of them have really good fingertricks, so if an alg isn't working well for you, you probably aren't doing the fingertrick right. Once you get that down, you just repeat them over and over.

Yea, but also try to keep practicing it a few times throughout the day.
For instance start practicing an alg, and maybe just repeat it for about 5 minutes straight.
Then 5 or 10 minutes later, check to see if you can still do it.
Then check again maybe 30 minutes or an hour later.
Then a few hours later, or the next morning, something like that.

I like to practice for about 20 minutes before I go to sleep. Usually when I wake up, the algorithms are ingrained into my muscle memory.

Hi, I'm new to this website! I have memorized how to solve a Rubik's Cube (probably a different way than most people), but I am trying to memorize all of the OLL's and PLL's. Any pointers for those?

i would recommend learning the 2-look algorithms first, but if u wanna jump right into full fridrich, what i do is learn 1-2 algorithms each day by repeating it until its in my muscle memory. Before you sleep, pick up the cube and see if u still remember how to do it. prisma puzzle timer also has scrambles meant for fridrich learners.
