[Help Thread] Colour Neutral Discussion and Help

Thank you for the positive reactions :)

Today I had an awesome experience:

U D L' U' F2 U B L B' D2 F2 D L2 D' R2 D L2 U2 B2 L2

First choice white, but didn't figure out the X-cross without destroying anything.
Then I realized, there is red!

10.58 without skips :D

Edit:

Fnished Session. Really surprised it turned out that well. I'm pretty sure I didn't prefer any colors over others.

Just 'cause I felt like it:

Don't have time to do other colors.

The blue low score is maybe because it was my first 5 solves of this day ;) All and all I am very pleased with these numbers. I am almost color neutral ;)

Wow, nice job! :)

I begin color neutrality.

zzoh

yellow: 19.93, 20.42, 20.11, 21.77, 22.13, 18.89, 16.11, 23.11, 18.86, 19.76, 19.88, 21.74 =20.35

red: 57.36, 38.85, 47.75, 50.21, 45.30, 35.02, 46.45, 51.72, 48.26, 38.12, 48.83, 33.87 =45.05

Looking around for edges that "feel" like they need orienting is NOT the best way to approach eoline.

I quit color neutrality.

Well, it's Day 3 of my CN training. Still doing yellow and I think I'm pretty close with yellow as with my white cross times. I mostly practice F2L by itself and do some full solves each day. Just got this Ao12.

Average (yellow cross): 17.79
16.56, 17.62, 16.46, 18.78, (25.34), (15.23), 19.99, 15.78, 17.03, 17.68, 17.42, 20.65

Pretty good considering I had just a 17.xx Ao12 with white cross on my baseline solves. I have only solved white cross about 3 times in the last 3 days. One was actually just an F2L solve where I was curious about how much better I was at white than yellow. I was having a session where I averaged about 11-12 for yellow F2L and when I did a white I suddenly ended up with a 7.xx F2L! And I did one white cross full solve yesterday which got 15.xx (fairly good for me). I think I started doing a white cross today by accident. Well, one more day of yellow and then I'm pretty excited about starting green cross on Day 5. Yellow has been more or less like white but green will be rather different and I wonder what it will feel like. I don't know if this will help me, but a couple decades ago when I first learned how to solve a Rubik's cube, I learned beginner's method with green cross actually.

When should I become CN? I avg 31ish. Now or when I am faster?

Whenever you become interested enough in it to stay motivated. I've read anecdotes that it's easier to switch sooner rather than later, so maybe now is best, but I started CN so I don't know.

If you plan to become CN, do it immediately. The faster you get, the harder it becomes to switch. By no means is it necessary to go CN though, do it if you want to.

It's probably easier the earlier you do it. I like to think of it like learning languages. It's easy for kids to pick up new languages. After a certain age, it becomes hard although people still do it. Just more effort.

Does color neutral make you faster?

I highly doubt it will make me faster. But it makes me a lot cooler ;) I started out training CN three weeks ago. Today I did an Ao100 and got 31 seconds average. My first sub 32 Ao100 on white cross was only December 14th last month. So I am getting there..

That is pretty awesome. I think I will spend some time on yellow this week since I skipped yellow training completely. ;) I am really curious about your red and orange times.

It only matters more when you're more advanced. Plenty of people get sub-10 with single colour. Cross is one less move on average but I think that is hardly any advantage. If that were all, I'd say it was a waste of time. Much higher chance of X-cross and better lookahead into F2L are bigger advantages in my opinion. I haven't really spent time working on X-cross though but assuming I do succeed in switching to CN, that would be the next thing for me to learn.

I am curious too. According to my baseline solves, green/blue, red/orange were pretty much all the same so I imagine my red and orange times would be like how my green and blue times would go. We shall see. Green begins tomorrow. :)

Green - 28.89, 30.96, (34.38), 31.13, (25.12) = 30.33
Blue - (24.19), 31.83, 30.44, 28.69, (33.13) = 30.32
Orange - (37.17), 30.64, 26.49, (24.88), 26.63 = 27.92
Red - 27.23, (24.19), (31.68), 30.76, 25.07 = 27.69
Yellow - 25.16, (29.05), (21.80), 26.29, 26.57 = 26.01
White - 22.72, 23.16, (20.20), 23.82, (32.13) = 23.23

Day 4
Yellow cross training completed. Today's best Ao12 with yellow cross: 17.80.
Just realized the schedule calls for blue next, but I kept thinking it was green. Oh well, I'll just do green and do blue when it says green.

Edit: The best Ao12 is out of 55 full timed solves.

So I did a session and it shows some progress.
Should I also practise each color in particular? Or every opposite pair as bi-neutral? something like that.
I don't know if it makes more sense to just act CN as I am doing right now or to practise the colors one by one.
