New beginner wanting to learn F2L

Just keep practicing, but not perse more, try to practice effective.
Forget about timing yourself for the next coupe of weeks, just try to solve F2L pairs as effective as you can.
Doesn't matter if this makes you very slow; think about what you are doing for bringing the edge and corner together.

If you understand what you are doing / have to do the "thinking" part will be reduced and your times will drop automatically.

But really: stop timing yourself for a while.
Timing builds frustration and that is not the state of mind you want to be cubing in.

This. Timing adds heaps of pressure/stress and it feels like you're not exactly having fun, but instead striving hard and sweating to meet a particular time. Also, if you average 1:30 now and stop timing for say a week then start timing again, you'll be surprised and pleased at the sudden plunge in your times. Satisfaction :P

Just my 2centz

I'm getting 1:00+ my new pb is only 50 seconds. I finish the F2L and cross in about 30-40 seconds and the last layer is taking me 20 seconds + , how do I minimize it?

Try to learn 4 look last layer, and practice it just like you did with your F2L. 4LLL is not hard at all, as you will want to slowly merge into 2LLL soon.
They are not hard to memorize. Just repeat the algs over and over again for at least 10 minutes straight and it will probably get stuck in your long term memory.
When memorizing algs, search for tips either on the internet or by your self. Some of these may be tracking F2L pieces. Take a look at badmephisto's website, you will find a lot of advice there. I once even made a "movie" in my head when I first learned the T-Perm.

Good Luck.

Have fun Bray!

What methods/substeps do you use? If you use 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL, then I suggest you get a better cube. I use a Zhanchi, my F2L time is around 25 seconds and my last layer time (with 4LLL) is around 13 seconds.

I use a ghost hand, I ordered a Zhanchi though should be here soon. I use only the original basic method on how to solve a rubiks cube, then I use the F2L, that's about it.

Why would you want a better cube if you use 4LLL and average 1:00+? I'd say the most important thing is to practice. You can get very good times with 4LLL even on a Rubiks Brand.

I only do F2L and basic method.. I haven't learnt anything else..

I'm doing the 4LL but sometimes they're not working. Should I bother learning 4LL or just learn OLL PLL?

All algs in 4LL are actually OLL and PLL algs :)
4LL is a steppping stone to full OLL PLL so do this first, then just keep on adding more PLL algs.
Much later you want to add more OLL algs

For some reason, I'm doing the algorithms perfectly but they're not working. Also I get some results where I have the right set up for an algorithm, but the yellow squares are in the wrong spots, can I still use the algorithm if this happens?

Ok I started learning F2L 3 days ago. My average before was 65 seconds ish with sub 1 minutes every now and then (not knowing 2 look pll or 2 look oll) When if first start F2L i hated it getting times of 2.5 minutes but the next day I was getting sub 2 easily. next day its at 90 seconds. And now im back at about my old average (although I learned a few more oll and pll algs to make 4LLL more consistent) with some bad 90 secs popping up every now and then. So is my F2L learning taking as long as yours did?

I'm getting about 1:03 average, but I've only been cubing for 6 days, first day basic method (dan brown i think it was), and for the next 5 days only F2L. So I think you're going pretty well dude, hopefully I can get an average sub 60.

That's a pretty fast transition, a lot of people used the beginner method for more than 1 day. I used it for 2 months, then used intuitive F2L and then started memorizing 2LLL.The time it took me to master F2L was around half a year, then it took me 2 months to memorize 30 algorithms out of 78 (Yes, it would take you a long time to memorize algorithms if you are busy).

Also, don't time yourself or be expecting a big drop on your times when you first start 4LLL to 2LLL. You need practice, especially when switching to 2LLL. There may be some cases that you don't know yet, causing you to downgrade the method you use. For example, if you get T-Perm when you're trying to use 2LLL, but you haven't learned the T-Perm yet, you would most likely downgrade that 2LLL to a 4LLL.
