Hi I have been cubing for 4 months now and am down to a consistent sub 25 average but now from here after consistent quick improvement I have stopped improving but am going up and down between 20 and 25.

To help I have watched some one step stop videos and adopted some new techniques like edge control and F2L tricks but I have only shaved a second or two of my times.

Below is my step by step average (NOTE I HAD TO PRESS THE SPACE BAR BETWEEN EASCH STEP, IT IS NOT A THEORETICAL AVERAGE BECAUSE I ONLY INSPECTED AT THE START)of 6, and also a normal average of 5 for me:

My method is Fridirich with intuitive F2L along with some algs for tricky cases and a two look OLL a 1 look PLL. (I use a white type A DIY)

Questions:

MOST IMPORTANT QUESTSION- Who has a great list of OLL's in the order of easiest to learn?

Does any one have a tutorial on the extended cross, I struggle to apply it in a solve efficiently becaus it gets in the way when I insert my other edges, how are you supposed to do it?

What kind of tricks and tips do you have for me? (anything)

Where are my main areas of concern? ( I kind of know this)

What did you do to get from sub 25 to sub 20 and if practise as always what kind of practise did you do?

ALSO... SECOND MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONWhat is a good way of training recognition for OLL's and PLL's and why is there no such thing as an OLL timer Attack??? How do you get Faster at OLL's

------------------------------------------------------

I would appreciate any help at all to make my knowledge of cubing larger even if it won't necessarily speed me up.

P.S please make sure to read the whole post to grasp a full understanding of the tread
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also if there is a ZZ video tutorial out there someone let me know and... Is empty slotting of F2L that great or is the usual technique sufficient?

Have you ever thought about learning a differant aproch for the first two layers? You're like as good as me now but now you are better bacuse I switched to ZZ two days ago. My fridrich solves are still a shave better than yours so heres all I can give, in order
1. Cross-F2L look-ahead. (the transition)
2. PLL's, all should atleast be under three
3. Learn OLL (I'm like half way through. These are really easy to memo)
4. F2L under 7 secs, but you alredy have it pretty good!

Could you give us a more accurate average of each step of your times? Please use this timer.

Wow you are improving fast! I would recommend getting your PLLs faster so your PLL Time Attack is about 1 minute on average. Use a good lubricated cube, and relax while executing moves so you don't lock up. Then slowly speed up your turning, keep your fingers relaxed. I would recommend doing this while riding in a car, and you don't really have to look at the cube if you get motion sickness.

lol impossinle for me, It would drive my parents insane. LOL imagine trying a ZZLL time attack (160 algs)

Tell your parents to listen to music in the car, and turn it up really loud. And if you have SUV or a Minivan or something like that, sit in the back seat.

My dad doesn't really mind when I cube. He doesn't turn the music on either. I guess it's because I have nothing else to do and he doesn't stop me, and he barely hears it because he's concentrating on driving.

noobcuber: I'd highly recommend working on your move count for the F2L. How many moves it is now? If it is above 37 or so avg, get that down.

Your LL could use some work. Your theo avg is over 6.8 seconds. With recognition, that is like 8/9 second LL. Go through all your PLLs and practice them. Do each one like 10 times. And where you see delays, work on them. Your OLL isn't bad for 2 look.

Other than that, practice combines all of the above. Work on it, and you will get there. Good luck.

Start learning 1 look OLL, that will make your times more consistent, (I assume your 25+ are mostly when you got tricky OLL's?). That will take you to low 20 times. But remember that learning new things slows you down at first.

So next thing will be the usual practice practice practice, that will take you to sub 20 in time.

ALso apart from general advice it would hep if someone could answer my specific questions please

I will repeat what I said before:

Yes your F2L needs a lot of work. I average about the same as you but my F2L is 10 seconds (need to work on other things).

I'm probably going to work on F2L more and more because I think it's more fun to work on then any other part of the solve.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris Hardwick has a tutorial on how to do the extended cross
http://www.speedcubing.com/chris/f2l.html
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think there is no such thing as an OLL Trainer because there are a large amount of cases compared to PLLs and everybody's too lazy to program it all.

There is such thing as LL Trainer, which trains your entire last layer. It gives you a scramble to a random mixed up last layer position, and it times you on how fast you can solve the cube. I'll try to find the link... (Can't find the link... anyone want to provide it?)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One more thing...
How do you get Faster at OLL's
Practice them

Really? In fridrich I like to practise PLL's the most cos I love turning fast, but am not good at it :p

When I practice PLLs, my hands get tired because you have to turn so fast. In F2L you turn slowly and smoothly. Also you don't really lock up a lot in F2L because of that.
