I've been trying to practice solving 2 f2l pairs bld a lot recently, and I'm wondering what's the best way to do it. Should I plan both pairs and know exactly how I'm going to solve them before I start turning? Or should I know how to solve the first pair and try to track the second pair bld while solving the first pair? Which practice method is better in the long run?

Thanks,

Thanks for the vid Hershey, though I've seen it already. I guess I should plan them both out, and then execute in one look. But, what I about the other way I mentioned? Will it work just as well?

Tracking pieces would work too, I guess.

Well to do that you would have to multislot to get somewhat near optimal on the 2 pairs. Its easy to just track and follow but that would just make the move-count static.

Though there are 42 F2L cases, learning how to multi-slot them all to each other would be difficult, but you could learn some basic things like changing the edge orientation(EOline based) of the other pair to you don't have to rotate and it would be solvable using 2gen moves.

Everyone, we are going off topic. We are supposed to be having a discussion about:

solving 2 F2L pairs in 1 look
vs.
solving 1 F2L pair and tracking the second one.

To answer the original question, both of them are good ideas.

I find that what helps me better than either of these two ways of solving to pairs at a time is to find two pairs and then find the optimal way to insert the first so as to have the best second insert. I normally try inserting the first pairs in all ways that I know and find which one results in the best 2nd pair. This is basic multislotting and is, imo, better to practice than to simply try inserting two pairs at a time. Inserting two pairs at a time helps your memorization skills, but it isn't really that practical for most in a real solve. Additionally as was said before, if all you are doing is basic slotting, then you aren't really improving your f2l. Just my two cents. I DO still practice doing both pairs at the same time blindfolded, but not as much as I practice actual multislotting
