Solving F2L pairs in the F2L slot.

I`m pretty new to speedsolving and i recently learned CFOP, but instead of solving the F2L pairs in the U layer, i solve the pair in the slot. So I`m orienting the edges and corners in the slot using 2 algs.
But I`m concerned because I haven't seen this technique used anywhere, and I`m afraid I`m developing a bad habit.

Sounds like a 'bad habit' to me. If it averages over 8 moves per slot (which it sounds like it does) then it's not effective.
