F2L

what? Nothing in that post made any sense at all.

Yes there can be intuitve algorithms. If you learn F2L intuitively and mess with it to find GOOD ways of doing things intuitively, then you look at the algorithms, many of those algorithms will be the same moves that you were doing intuitively. Hence an intuitive algorithm.

and how do you figure there are only 9 F2L cases when you do it intuitively? Doing something intuitively or learning algorithms for it doesn't change the number of cases at all...there are still 42 cases either way. Please look through the 42 F2L cases and explain to me how 33 of them would never happen just because you were solving it intuitively instead of with algorithms.

Dude he clearly means that there are 9 types of cases:

1. Corner on top layer same color as edge on top: Hide corner and reposition edge
2. Corner on top layer with cross color facing up: Hide edge and reposition corner above it

etc. etc.

One could easily make the argument that there are only 9 basic types of cases.

You not doing anything wrong but you are learning at some pretty high times. What I learned was full PLL and 3 look OLL first, THEN I learned F2L. I learned it three months ago and my time sky rocketed, before I was at 34 sec then I went up to 48-49. All it takes is practice and patiance. I am currently at an avg of 21-23. A 28 second difference is good.

So don't you think you missed out on a lot of F2L practice by waiting so long?

i cant believe that this guy wont listen. here.
look at the f2l algorithms. if you dont, look at badmephistos f2l tutorial video on youtube. the f2l algorithms are all the cases you will come across. the difference between intuitive f2l and algorithmic f2l is that with intuitive, you set up each case into one of 3 basic cases, RUR', L'UL, or hiding and edge and positioning the corner above it to make a pair and then inserting the pair. the biggest difference i find between intuitive and algorithmic is that intuitive f2l knowledge will not allow you to solve bad cases efficiently. taking a look at the algorithmic f2l does not mean that the cubers here are telling you to memorize algs. this means to simply go over each case with the algorithm there so you can understand what it looks like to make the pair and insert it. what do we mean by sticker on the right, sticker on the left, on the top?
f2l takes a lot of time because of 2 things. in the beginners method you are looking for only 1 piece at a time, once you see that piece, you work on that piece. 2nd thing is that once you find your corner and corresponding edge, how do you pair them? how do you insert them? . . . these 2 things are what are slowing you down. looking for 2 pieces when you were only accustomed to looking for 1, and then the problem of how to pair them. . . looking for 2 corresponding pieces will come with time, and lookahead for the next pair while you are solving another pair, in much much more time and practice. with how to insert them and pair them, however, the speedsolving wiki and badmephisto's or even westons f2l tutorials are the way that MANY people learned intuitive f2l.

you will know when you have to dip into the alg database for a bad intuitive f2l case. however, i know you will be shocked when the many of the algs in the database will match up with the way you solve them intuitively.
there are many many threads regarding this issue of having problems with f2l. please use the search function within the forum to look for a solution or ask in the one question answer thread.
wait until you start learning PLL and you screw up an alg and have to start all over with f2l again during your solve. haahahha. every step of learning CFOP can be a pain if you dont have patience.

Watch videos, read tutorials and practice!

I was in the same situation as you a fortnight ago... now I'm twice as fast as I used to be.

There is speedsolving.com/wiki but i really dislike algorithms for F2L. I look at it with an intuitive look , and it helps me better. I hope this doesn't discourage you
from doing algorithms, but whatever way is good for you, do it. Check out Feliks Zemdegs F2L tutorial in how to get faster at the Rubik's cube. It helps A LOT!

Scarmbled OLL=How I feel about what was bolded.

Yea, nowhere near 20 seconds yet. I'll keep practicing. Although I know my time with increase greatly just due to the fact of me getting a GuHong because right now I have a crappy Rubiks that says "Hey, what the heck do you think your doing? Trying to turn at 1 degree? Are you insane? Gotta be at 0 degrees. Idiot..." Then I'll get my Guhong and turn at 45 degrees. Like seriously, all the sides have to be perfectly straight before I can turn the damn thing.

That Rubiks helps a lot. Lube it properly and see the difference. Its always nice to practice accurate turning and especially when you dont have a very good quality cube

They're intuitive algorithms.

Many, many, many sites; here's one: http://www.speedsolving.com/wiki/index.php/F2L

And concentrate on how the edge is getting paired with the corner.
Once you get the concept, its pretty intuitive for most cases.
There are some cases for which you need separate algos to be fast esp when the corner and edge are adjacent in the top layer or one of them is inside a correct/incorrect slot.

Yeah well, my thumbs and fingers are very sore today due to the fact that I have to use this cube. I tried lube, and kinda screwed it up(wasn't silicone spray), but after washing it out and such, it was smoother. I can't find the silicone spray I had before but I'm sure that'd help a ton.

But my cube should arrive Saturday, just got shipped yesterday. USPS out from Colorado, right around the Denver area.

Aerochem Brute Blast. Said it was a lubricant, so I tried it since I had no other option. It screwed up my cube and made the pieces kinda stick together, but once you got the piece to move a bit it would go the rest of the way pretty smoothly. After breaking it in and giving it a couple washings, it turns smoothly now. I'm sure it'd be a lot better if I had the silicone spray though, cause I remember my old cube being so much better. But my Lubix Dayan GuHong is in the mail on its way!

Use 100% Silicone Spray. Nothing else, besides Jigaloo.
