Let's say your first solve time out of 5 was 16 sec. Now you're on your last solve, your first solve was your slowest so far. As you're solving it, you look at the timer, and you see you will get over 16 sec. Could you just DNF your solve so it could count as the 16 sec time and not something over it?

Of course you can DNF (just stop the timer before finish solving the cube). But i don't get the point of it. Your overall result won't be better with a DNF than with an 18s solve.
So: WTF?

I actually had a question similar to this. If you could tell that you were going to have a really bad time, could you just purposely pop? You get one pop out of an average of five right?

The WCA got rid of the pop rule for that exact reason: people were popping during bad solves to get an extra chance.

As of now, if you pop, you have to finish the solve or take a DNF.

You can, but then you will only get an average out of 2 insetad of 3 (because the best and worst are taken). But if you do it once more, you will not get an average.

WTF?

DNF = worst solve.

Seriously: Why do you guys ask this question. There's absolutely no reason to DNF a solve on purpose.

I don't get what Siraj is saying either. It doesn't matter if your worst time is DNF or a large amount of time, the average is still the middle three of your five.

The only reason I could think of taking a DNF is if your on your last solve and you're doing very bad, and you'd rather have DNF on your record than a 55 second solve.

Of course you can ask for a DNF. At Chattahoochee my last time was horrible. Even though I completed it, I asked for it to be a DNF because I was embarrassed at how bad it was.

But it will hurt your average.

Haha, so your times at the WCA database doesn't reflect the reality. Great...

I messed up two algs, and dropped the cube once.
