Sune

Sune comes from its "inventor" or "discoverer".

When you have a Sune OLL, some people talk about a "7 move OLL".

I was kind of hoping it was referring to Sune from Dungeons and Dragons :)

I was just wondering. So is there any one specific person in "Cubing History" that came up with this algorithm.

Gilles mentioned that it was the name of the inventor. I've never heard of him.

I've been naming all my OLL algorithms (to help me remember - I name them after characters in movies I watch while I learn them), and kind of interestingly, the first algorithm I learned was Sune (I named it Johann, from the Monster anime).

And it is one of the fastest 7 sequences of moves you can do.

Sune: R U' R' U R U2 R'
Anti-Sune: R U2 R' U' R U' R'

I struggle with Sune when it comes to moving from the 3rd move to the 4th (R' U) because of the grip I'm using. I can't think of a better way to do it (I'm right handed).

Instead I prefer use Anti-Sune and incorporate it into other algorithms because I can do it much faster.

It'd be cool to know which algorithm Lars can do the fastest (I can only guess it's Sune based off one video) :-P

It's probably worth noting to the OP that parts of Sune can be combined with other parts algorithms to achieve a permutation. For example:
J Perm = Anti-Niklas + Sune
J Perm: (L' U R U' L U2) (R' U R U2 R')
J Perm = Anti-Sune + Niklas
J Perm = (R U2 R' U' R) (U2 L' U R' U' L)
FYI: Executing either J Perm twice (or one of each) will result in the cube being restored to it's original state.

If you're left hand or right hand biased then you might want to translate the algorithms into different face-notations such as on the LUF or RUF faces respectively so that you're not doing any movements that you feel uncomfortable with. Personally I like executing algorithms on the LUR faces and find it difficult to use D and B faces (I usually regrip the cube if I need to do F face movements so that it's L and then regrip after it's executed)... end rant :-P

The Sunes I know:
Sune: R U R' U R U2 R'
Anti-Sune: R U2 R' U' R U' R'
Sunesson: L' U' L U' L' U2 L
Anti-Sunesson: L' U2 L U L' U L
Super-Sune: R U R' U R U' R' U R U2 R'
Super-Sunesson: L' U' L U' L' U L U' L' U2 L
Super-Anti-Sune: R U2 R' U' R U R' U' R U' R'
Super-Anti-Sunesson: L' U2 L U L' U' L U L' U L
