When Should I get a DIY?

Your first cube should be DIY. They are cheaper and turn better.

I don't know why anyone who has never solved a Rubik's Cube would say, "Hey, I should get an Old Type A DIY from Cube4You!" They most likely don't know what a DIY is when they buy thier first cube. I didn't know DIYs existed until after I joined this forum, months after I started speedcubing.

i think i already said this, but i'm going to elaborate a little, people should get a DIY whenever they want, whenever the feel like it, period. there is no reason to wait until you do a certain time in my opinion, i mean, i got my DIY before i even started speedsolving.

I understand your point and agree to everything, but I'm a little confused about the last part. Why would you need a DIY before you've begun speedsolving? That's like buying a book before knowing how to read...

You can get a DIY whenever you feel like it. I got one when i found out about speedcubing. I feel that DIYs make cubing more enjoyable. Less force in turning sides, and less stress!

just buy it, even if you are a beginner, nothing bad on buying one, store bought a diy are only few dollars difference

I'm getting one in a week or so because my dad got me some dianshengs in China, for like $2.00 (minis for $1.50) :DDD, but I would have gotten some soon (this summer) anyway. Now, my average is ~40.xx seconds, and my pb is 24.49sec. I'm guessing if I had gotten them in the summer I would have been around 35seconds average.

I really think there are two different reasons to buy a DIY:

1. Have better times
2. Have a good cube to practice

If you are buying your DIY for the first reason, then DONT do it, because you can have better times practicing on ANY cube. If youre buying it for the second reason then, I see no problem. It is far much enjoyable to have a smoot cube when you are a begginer.
