Upcoming puzzles

Not sure if mentioned yet but the new Dayan Jinghong 4×4×4 has been announced. Retail price probably around 30-40 USD, comparable to Vin 4 v2 Surge.

First (mass produced) 4×4×4 to feature a 20-mag ball core. Nothing else about it seems particularly special but as a Dayan fanboy, I have high hopes.
This peaks my interest, I may purchase one because out of the people who do 5x5 I seemed to be of the few that loved the Nezha but just didn't perform well on it.

"Stellar Cube", appears to be a new sub brand of YJ.
These are listed on the front page of the Globalcube.store site.

Just tried a prototype of the upcoming Vin Megaminx (yes the 4x4 brand) in a comp earlier today, it comes with frosted/UV coating, and the edges look very similar to the very old MGC Megaminx or the old MoYu AoHun Megaminx with the thick ridges. The grip is nice especially the UV version. But it is much smaller than the old MGC Megaminx or the old MoYu AoHun Megaminx, similar to the size of the GAN Megaminx V2. The prototype I tried is not lubed, and does have some tiny catches here and there. I assume it to be core magnetic, and I think it can be a good contender to be one of the best mid range Megaminx along with the YJ YuHu V3 or the DaYan Pro V2 Megaminx. Compare to these modern Megaminxes, the turning style is more similar to the YJ than the DaYan, with a slightly more rounded feeling. Whether it is comparable to the GAN Megaminx V2 would require proper setup to make a fair comparison, but at least for the prototype Vin Megaminx I tried, the GAN Megaminx V2 is still a clear winner with a more superior performance OOTB.
It has been announced

Re: Vin mega:
Comes in two versions (Lite and Nova).

Lite is spring, no core mag, matte finish, includes black parts, 115-120 g.
Nova is maglev, corner-core magnetic, UV coated, 130 g. Unclear whether it has a grey side or black side; none of the promo pics show the face opposite white.

Other mega's weights for comparison (non-core-mag ones in italics):
Dayan Pro (spring): 100 g
Yuhu v3 spring: 105 g
Yuhu v3 Devo (spring): 114 g
Dayan Pro Plus maglev: 116 g
Vin Lite: est. 120 g
Gan v2: 122 g
Vin Nova: est. 130 g
Yuhu v3 maglev: 132 g
Yuhu v2: 151 g

Wholesale prices are between Yuhu v3 maglev and Dayan Pro Plus spring.

Would be real dumb if they mess up the Nova version by not including black pieces for the user to swap. (Even if it comes with black preinstalled, I probably still can't use it because my colour scheme is standard but with black replacing white. 🫠)

Pre-order at Spark Cubing
Watch it overtake the gan
That would be disappointing considering how long we’ve been waiting for the gan squan

Meanwhile me over here rocking the YLM

Look like not only the slices, but also the U and D layers have adjustable tensions

EStar squan is fire. OOTB it already felt nice, but I was getting lockups (the kind where you slice a corner piece where you shouldn't be able to) because it was too loose and I'm bad at turning.

I ended up tightening the slice a lot, and I also loosened the U and D layers by a quarter turn. Within a hundred solves, and despite being somewhat out of practice, I've already broken my PB ao50. (The Gan squan did not give me instant PB like the EStar did!)

It uses a hex key for the slice adjustment and a torx key for the U/D adjustment, which seems rather unusual. Why not normal cross screws? Or, even if they wanted something else, why not the same screw head for slice and UD? (Perhaps my ignorance is showing!)

The one I opened is comp legal, with four dark grey screws on UD. I'm wondering if the screw colours are just random and Cubicle got unlucky with one that happened to have mixed colours.

(disclaimer: me bad at squan; I also let someone much faster than me try it and he said the Gan was better)

They might have fixed the screw color issue on later batches
