I mase a big gamble, i signed up for Newcastle Summer 2025 in 4x4, and cutoff is 1:30 and time limit is 2:00.
Im should be fine with the time limit (i avg like sub 2 rn)
Basically, Id love some tips on how to get sub 1:30 (or even js sub 1:40/1:45, cause at least i have a higher chance of making cutoff)
I use hoya with 3-2-3 edge pairing btw.
I am planning to get the aosu v7 single track to replace my meilong m.
Hardware, although I know doesnt help much as you get faster, but I am at a point where my meilong m locks up enough times for me to think i will benefit decently from getting a new/better main.

I don't know anything about hoya really, but if you still use a bad cube (perhaps non-magnetic), get a better one (it really helps). Get the Vin 4x4. Then you will be saved👼🏿. Also, I would say learn how to do half-centers (again, if that actually exists in hoya). I hope you do well!
1- my main is the Meilong 4m , not very good but does the job. Im gonna get the auso v7 single track in a week or 2 as a friend lent me theirs and i loved it.
2 - half centers dont exist on hoya (i think, and yes ik you werent sure about it yourself)
Hoya centers are pretty much just like redux centers.

Not much to say other than, learn Yau(Jperm has a great video on it) and just practice a lot.
I used to use yau (with 6-2 edge pairing cause im different) but no matter how much i practiced or tried to wrap my head round the cross and center creating.
I checked out hoya and found it both made my 3x3 stage (and edge pairing stage) significantly faster, whilst being easier for me to understand. I alsso switched to 3-2-3 edge pairing like 2 days ago.

Does anyone know where I can find an alg sheet for sl2c ? (i dont think theres a proper name for it yet, but it uses parts of the f3l method to skip the last 2 centers in hoya) btw - sl2c = skip last 2 centers
if not ill try make my own spreadsheet for them or something
edit - anyone know any hoya solvers (mainly ones faster then me) that i can ping without tehm getting mad to ask for tips ?

It would probably be better for us to see a recon of one of your solves, that way we know what your thought process is during the solve
Ok ! Its getting late for me so Ill try find a good angle and that and do an ao5 on cam tmrw !
Edit - js read that again, I would do recons but I cant remember things for crap

If you're averaging 1:30, what you need isn't to learn fancy algs; it's to just get better at the basics. I'm fairly sure I average around a minute with Hoya and I don't even do anything fancy (because I don't main Hoya).

It doesn't necessarily hurt to have a look at the fancy methods, but you should be aware that it's really not the most important thing to work on.

Although your probably right about this, I was gonna look at learning it as it can shave a couple seconds off (for me, personally) off my avg, and tbh i can make a more intuitive and simple version off it that still benefits me without being too fancy and that in a day or 2 tbh (assuming I look for any alg that work)
