Listening to music or even just watching videos on the side (I like watching comedy) can really help, since you don't get bored while cubing.
So, i practiced today. I listened to this tip, and listened to music (arctic monkeys is awesome to cube to) and also watched Monty Python sketches while i was cubing.
On clock i average around 13.5 seconds. I use flip, and i have a pin order that works for me. I don't know if i'm in the stage where i need to learn new stuff or just keep solving and practice lookahead and prediction.
On 3x3 i average around 13-14. When i'm in the zone i can do an entire solve with fast TPS (I average ~7 TPS) and minimal pauses, but my efficiency is something I really need to look at. I think i'll do some recorded solves and slow them down to see my solutions, because at the moment i'm doing a lot of unecessary moves that i'm sure can be cut down.
As for 6x6 and 7x7, the last events i will be competing in, I am pretty awful. I have this mental block when it comes to big cubes, but i think i just need to overcome that by really practicing my lookahead and bar making. I do use reduction, but have tried Yau in the past but it really didn't work for me. I have watched countless tip videos and they have helped but once again, maybe i just need to grind solves. My freeslice skills are also pretty poor. At my last comp i competed in both 6x6 and 7x7 with a 5:08 mean and 10 minute single respectively, so i definetly want to get 6x6 down to 4 minutes at least and 7x7 down to 7 minutes at least.
