What aspects will the community be voting the methods on? Would it be on how fast they would be if implemented or on creativity or something else?
Last year they were voted on best overall method for speedsolving, most original, and most ergonomic. The year before most ergonomic was replaced with best method for fmc and most potential for variants/extensions.

I vote for 3x3.

There isn't much development to be done in Megaminx because it's very clear that F2L/S2L/2LLL methods are the best. There's not much to be done in clock either, considering it's more of a recognition/turning precision event. 2x2 is strictly less interesting than 3x3 but I wouldn't object if we did it--there's still some room for development. Pyra and skewb are a little silly in my humble onion. Big cubes kind of boil down to how do we reduce to 3x3 stage the best, which is also uninteresting. It's clear that 3 look VDB is best for squan. 3BLD already has 3style.

Why, though? 3x3 methods are already great, and have been agreed upon by world-class cubers. The only things that really need to be improved are lookahead, tps, nerves, and more efficient solutions.

All of the events have great methods already. There isn't anything we can really improve. What we (or at least I) look for in method competitions is which puzzles we can create the most unique methods in. I believe 3x3 has the most diversity.

Yup. We address lookahead, tps, and efficiency in method development. (Not sure about nerves--maybe some methods are more stress-inducing than others? Like ZZ and planning EOcross. just kidding)

Given that we’ve already had a method development competition for 3x3 and 4x4 (and especially since 3x3 methods keep getting developed regardless of a competition), the only good options I can see are big cubes or megaminx. But honestly as long as it’s not 3x3 it’ll be interesting to see what methods people come up with.

Megaminx is honestly an awful puzzle to try to develop anything meaningful. It’s just blocks until you reduce to last layer, which is hundreds of cases for 2look. Just PLL is 151 cases so I don’t really see there being any point on developing silly alg sets that would be unreasonable to learn for the sake of novelty.

If you want to do something interesting, go to square-1. It’s a reasonably small puzzle in terms of alg sets and still has room for developing cool things. I even have my own unfinished/unreleased method.

Maybe u can host next year’s one with square-1 as the event 😀

Pyra and skewb are a little silly in my humble onion
Next time there is a method development competition I would vote for either pyra, skewb, or squan. Square-1 is an interesting event and while it is pretty optimized, and there is potential for fast 3 look solving with other methods if they are created and executed well. Pyraminx and Skewb are pretty optimized but could be good for developing add-on alg sets or whole other methods entirely that take advantage of a more random puzzle state. If there is room for development in 2x2 then there is definitely room for development on pyra and skewb.
