No, it’s really seen as the better method and used by most top solvers nowadays.
I personally have never used reduction for any big cube, even 4x4. (I just learned yau right away) so I didn’t have any kind of learning barrier or issues with 6 or 7.

I've learned 22 EG-1 algorithms in the past 3 days, and I don't want to forget any of them so I'm going to take today as a recap day and go through all the algs again and drill them.
