How Fast Can You Get With Ortega? | THE TEST

well i use a mix of ortega and lbl and im sub 4

DISCLAIMER i only do diagonal swap first layer for ortega

LBL is more consistent but a harder to get good at
Ortega is very inconsistent but very easy to get good at
I say this because with ortega there is a chance you get a last layer skip and have to rotate upside down to do a PLL to fix the first layer and thats why i only do diagonal swap first layer for ortega. also in ortega it is easy to predict auf and also faster first layers.

I think my tps and tracking of pieces can still be improved a little bit more so i will say the best you can get with ortega is low 3s

Yes the rotation is annoying, at least for the upside down T Perm case you can just do R2 [T Perm] R2

You can easily average low-mid 3 ortega with enough practice. I would recommend learning how to inspect first layer + bottom CP + OLL, then looking ahead to top CP during OLL to go straight into PBL. You can also learn alternative OLL algs to avoid getting bad PBLs like single J or single N, and learn PBL algs from multiple angles. This could probably even get you sub-3 but I don't have good TPS...

You never need to rotate with Ortega. You can permute any case with the right algorithm without rotating. Unfortunately several of the ortega permutation algorithms are very slow and this limits the method.

I'm trying to get better for a competition in early april. I decided to work on ortega rather than learning CLL. Currently I average 7 seconds and I want to get to at least 6 (but 5 would be nice, but unrealistic) for the competition.
