I started practicing sq-1 five days ago. My avarage is around 1:15.00, and my PB is 48.22 (50 solves in total)
I'm learning through the YouTube channel "Cube Master", he explains it very well.


I want tips on what to learn step by step, since yesterday I have been practicing cubeshape scallop-kite, and I am gradually getting used to it.
CO: easy, intuitive, normal
EO: I know 3 cases, so... 3 algs -> 2-2 opp (M2) / 2-2 adj / and 1-1 (UP RIGHT/ DOWN BACK)
CP: I know only 1 alg, which I have to repeat 3 times in the worst case (Like sexy move) -> ( / U /' U' D' / D / )
EP: I know 3 cases, normal adj ( / D M2 D / ) ..... H perm in up or down layer, Z perm in up or down layer
Parity: I do right after EO and before CP (I have to inspect both layers before the CP, I think I waste unnecessary time)


So I would like you to help me to have a guide of what to learn gradually. =)

How to scramble square one?
I'll give you a formula for how to scramble the square 1
/ = Turn your slice 180 Degrees.
(x,y)
x= top layer. x * 30 degrees = how much you need to turn. (Edges are worth 1 and Corners are worth 2) Edges =30 Degrees Corners =60 Degrees
y= bottom layer
Positive means you are turning clockwise
Negative means you are turning counter-clockwise
EXAMPLE: (-5,6)/(0,3)/(3,3)/(0,3)
Turn the top layer counterclockwise by 150 degrees and turn the bottom layer 180 degrees
Turn the slice 180 degrees
Turn the bottom layer clockwise by 90 degrees
Turn the slice 180 degrees
Turn the Top and bottom clockwise by 90 degrees
Turn the slice 180 degrees
Turn the bottom clockwise by 90 degrees

First thing that you should do is finish learning CP. I recommend learning JJ since you can use that to do most cases 2 look with setup moves etc. While you are at it learn EO as well since there are not many cases. Also, what parity do you use? I use 2 depending on the case. I know the typical one that swaps the UF and UR edges, but I also know another one that switches the UR and UB edges. I would only recommend doing this if you want to get fast without learning CSP. Also unless you do CP parity, do CP, then Parity (to make a better EP case) then finish EP. Also scallop kite is a good cubeshape method, but you should also try and find some scallop scallop setups as well if they are faster/more efficient

That is a pretty efficient alg but the fingertricks are a little hard to do. Try this alg instead since it is much easier to execute and use in a solve since it only moves 2 pieces instead of 4 edges and 2 corners like the first one / (-3,0) / (0,3) / (0,-3) / (0,3) / (2,0) / (0,2) / (-2,0) / (4,0) / (0,-2) / (0,2) / (-1,4) / (0,-3) /

I can do this alg in around 2.5 seconds and since its 13 slices that gives you 5.2 sps which is pretty fast (for reference my adj adj is in .5 so that's 8 sps). It also will improve your turning style since there is a lot of moves that are done often like 3s 2s and 4s. If you are using Polish Style switch right away to Western-style, sorry I forgot to mention that in my last post. (western turning means you alternate between what looks like R2 and R2' on a 3x3 and polish turning means you only do R2 and don't do R2')

Is it a good idea to learn CP parity if you want to be decently fast but not, say, sub 15?
In my opinion CP parity is a waste of time. Sure the case number is low but if you want to become competitive one day in square-1 you should learn CSP. Cp parity just makes your case count lower than full EP but it does not have enough benefits to warrant learning it over CSP. Like I said, if you want to be world-class in squan you need to know CSP, so learning CP parity is an unnecessary step. Stick with only learning 2 EP parity cases (opp and adj) until you learn CSP.

I just wanted to know if it was beneficial for me to use since I don't want to get fast, just decent.

As in will it make me at all faster? or is it just a waste because although you skip parity, the recog suffers.

It will make you faster like any other alg set, but if you want to learn algs learn some EP instead. EP parity is superior in my opinion and CP parity does not do enough to warrant using it over CSP or EPP.

Since there are so many algs for EP parity, which are the most useful? (Besides Opp and Adj parity and U perms top and bottom)

Well I am pretty bad at sq 1. I do cubeshape by matching all the edges together, and then I do a couple if moves and its in the cubeshape. From there I orient the corners. (should I bother to put the corners such that they are correctly oriented or not?) Then I orient the edges using one of two algorithms multiple times. ( one that swaps one on the bottom layer with one on the top and one that swaps UF with DF and UB with DB) Where can I find the best EO algs? Then I do one of the CP cases I have learned from lars' site. Next I do EP which is usually doing the alg that swaps UR with UB and Dr with DB. Sometimes I will do M2 U2 M2, and of course i finish with parity. So what should I start improving? cubeshape, EO, or EP?
EDIT: I read blade740's tutorial and I plan on learning the 5 algs that he posted for cubeshape. What averages can I expect to obtain with the method blade740 shows?


For EO I use (0, -1)/(-3, 0)/(4, 1)/(-4, -1)/(3, 0)/(0, 1)

This swaps UB edge and DF edge.
