IMHO, cube rotations are ridiculously slow.
I know in tutorials everyone always says, "don't waste time on rotating the cube." I never listened... until recently.

My times were all over the place, rarely less than 55, but sometimes as much as 1:30!! (which is a bad deviation).

Ever since I have stopped turning the cube during F2L, my times have become much closer together, and lower! Now 55 is bad for me, and I usually am in the 40-50 range (and by usually I mean today, because today is the first time I noticed).

I think I also realized that my finger tricks are horrible/non-existent. Not rotating the cube during F2L has cut my time down by 10 seconds (yes, that means using the back face as well).

While I'm in the beginner forum anyway, I want to ask how/where I can learn some good fingertricks. I know there have been hundreds of threads on this topic, but just watching fast cubers doesn't really help me much. What would help is if one of you all made a slow motion video of a few solves, or maybe just a dedicated website page with included videos (I think I remember coming across one, but I don't anymore).

I had to post this, because I am very happy that my times went down so much. I have been cubing (seriously) for a longer time than my times can prove. (until now :) )

Normal F2l:

Time Rot.

1. 14.06 3
2. 11.73 4
3. 12.11 1
4. 12.63 3
5. 11.80 2

Ø 12.18 average.

Rotationless f2l:

1. 13.20
2. 16.55
3. 16.94
4. 15.47
5. 15.08

Ø 15.70

I rotate whenever I have to use the F or B face. Not rotating the cube destroys my lookahead.

I guess as a general rule that is good, though I find that most of the time B moves take a lot longer to execute than a cube rotation + execution. In those cases you might want to consider doing the cube rotation. I feel the same way about F moves, though they aren't as bad as B moves (for me, of course, maybe you're very comfortable with them).

There is a certain point you reach, where you longer ask questions, because you realize in the end, practice answers all. This forum taught me that. Now that I look back, not once did I ever watch a "finger trick" video, I made my own. It wasn't until I learned full PLL that I watched a single vid, and then picked up a couple of the advanced ones I probably woud've never figured out (Thumb Tricks). If you've seen a few finger trick videos, you've probably seen all you need to, and all that's left to do, is to practice.

I rotate about 5-6 times during F2L and I average about 20 seconds on 3x3.

B moves are really hard to execute without rotations

To avoid rotations during F2L I try to use d and d', but it doesn't work out for me.
