How to increase TPS

Although I am a sub 18 solver, my TPS is pretty slow compared to the other people I've seen that r sub 18, any method to increase TPS without just practise solves?

I average 16 and my tps is also slow, but I think it's better to have good lookahead and average 16 with bad tps than to have good tps but bad lookahead
You don't seem to understand what TPS stands for

It's not really a matter of lookahead though, because the tps will sort of level out with pauses. While you are correct @cuber314159 that it's generally better to keep a consistent turn speed and work on lookahead and efficiency, I think what @Malkom is getting at is the loss of efficiency also seen with people who have decent lookahead, turn quickly, but still get the same time.

Turns per second =/= your turning speed
If you do 4 moves in 1 second and then pause for a second you've done 4 moves in 2 seconds = 2TPS
if you do 4 moves in 2 seconds and fluently go into the next step you've done 4 moves in 2 seconds = 2TPS
Altough the raw turning speed is twice as fast in the first example the TPS is exactly the same. The way to improve is very different for the two and you need to clarify what you mean when you say TPS.

Or you could use the context of his question to interpret what he means by TPS, since it frequently refers to turning speed as well, and just answer the question instead of arguing semantics.

My TURNING SPEED (henceforth referred to as TPS) has always been slow, and I'm sub-13. I've never really drilled to increase my TPS, but it has naturally increased over time with just doing timed solves. I'm not convinced drilling does alot to improve TPS -- you either got it or you dont.

Just doing solves will increase turningspeed but instead of spending ~30 seconds per solve to improve F2L execution isn't more efficient to just drill the F2L cases? I don't really have any experience of drills but it sounds like it should be the better alternavite.
