Hello,

So I just got a cube yesterday and started learning how to solve it. Now I can solve the first two layers with beginner's method and the last layer while referring to OLL/PLL algorithms. I was wondering if I should memorize the algorithms before start timing myself, or just start timing myself using the beginner's method for the last layer?

Start timing yourself. It's fun to beat your own record and also be able to see your progress. Of course memorize algorithms as well, but there's no reason you can't get used to timing yourself

I am very interested in Roux! (Mostly because the M moves look so cool and because I prefer thinking more through a solve to just following algorithms.) Now midterm season is over I guess I can start learning. :)
Yay! I felt the same way when I averaged 14 with cfop and just recently switched to roux! I am now averaging 21 but improving quickly!! Roux is a lot of fun!

Time yourself whenever you want, it's good to learn algs and I would recommend it, but I know it was fun to time myself when I first learned.

Hmm I have been screwing up whenever I time myself... It certainly feels different when I try to go fast haha. Oh well baby steps.
