[Unofficial] 5x5 - 2:11.80 direct solving :D

That is just really cool to watch! Thanks for sharing this!

huh?????

what were you referring to? his method?

Absolutely! I've not seen a sub-2:30 direct solve of a 5x5x5 before, on video or in person. Maybe I just missed watching a better video somewhere else, but I've never seen one before. It's amazing to watch! I thought it was more amazing than watching Erik or Dan or Michael do a normal 5x5x5 solve. Just because it was so different.

(For all I know, some of those guys might be able to do this kind of speed with direct solving. I've just never seen it before, is all.)

my average is sub 2:20 after warming up..I almost got a sub 2:10 on vid..but..my cube got stuck. you know. that weird case. the one somebody got causing him a +2 penalty. bleah.
and I thought richard meyer with k5 has a faster solve on video?
EDIT: oops he got a 2:14.xx on vid..my bad

did i just hit a treasure trove when he gave me some algs then?

basically I solve 2 opposite sides with something to avoid middle slice parity (and solving it too!)
Next, middle edges...Mike Bennett's idea. Do a search and you will find out :D sadly mike did not have algs on his webbie so, thank you Kenneth for your algs...:D and of course algs from the k4 tutorial.

lastly, final 4 centres...i just wrote down all the 31 algs I know. :D

this method is so unknown that i know it's called r5.

edit: solve 2 opposite centers?
solve a '3x3 part' that includes corners and middle edges?
solve the remaining parts of the tredges.?
solve the last 2 centers?

mr dene.......... that wasnt too hard to derive from the video........

edit2: last 4 centers, my bad.

But you are also moving extremely fast.. I think you can do better with reduction although this method looks more impressive!

I can get a few sub-2 solves using the k4 variant, and Michael is able to get low 2s with his columns method. They aren't as awesome to watch as this, but they still involve direct solving. On the plane back from Germany, Michael and I were racing direct solving 5x5 a bunch. It's always fun to do :D

just timed a reduction solve...it was...a miserable..6 mins 42.31s -.-
I suspect it will take a little bit of practice. :) Give it a few weeks and you might find a rather huge change.

I suspected as much (hence the parenthetical). I'm sure those would be fun to watch too.

but but but...i'm barely sub 25s on 3x3...

well i just stink at redux. like real bad. My pb was 5 mins 58s with very lucky edges..and i've at least done 5 redux solves a week...for..3 months now? It's boring!

That's no excuse - I'm 28s on 3x3x3, but I can solve a 5x5x5 using reduction in about 2:45. :)

Your last sentence is the problem. If you think it's boring, you'll probably never be fast at it. (I think that's my biggest problem with 3x3x3.) Anyway, it's a lot cooler to watch you solve it this way! So no real need to change.
