I recently applied to change my username to "jan_Aki" so that my online alias was the same across websites but it got rejected, and if I was given a reason then I can't find it. Does anyone know why it would be rejected/can I get an appeal?

The name comes from the toki pona language. The "jan" part is like an honorary and "Aki" is "Halqrius" rearranged to fit toki pona phonotactics, which is a common practice in the community. Literally, it means "the person named Aki"

do you still get only one name change and you have to have donated?
That has always been the case. I guess it's just that pjk and the other mods hadn't enforced this for quite some time?

In order to prevent every member from changing their username and making it confusing on the forum, we only allow premium members to change their username - which has been the case since the beginning:

Hope that helps.

I think it will make more sense if users are conditionally allowed to change the username at most like once a year, will already be a lot better

Just use another email to create a new account
Multiple accounts aren't allowed and anyone who does it will be banned.

True, and I also don't want the old username back. I didn't change it for no reason. I was just pointing out that apparently it has been possible to change username without being premium member.
This must have been a mistake or accident. We get too many requests, and to prevent everyone from doing it, we require the premium membership.

Premium membership is a good clause to put to lessen the membership changes.

Hope the forum is an identifiable place with all the active members sticking with their username even if it is bad.

If you ever want to edit a thread title, just report the thread and request the edit and mods will review and decide.
yeah I was actually joking. =P
I can edit the titles of my threads, and you have the option you cited
