When was the plumber era of cubing?

[abunickabhi]

I have heard by word of mouth that the speedcubers nowadays refer to the competitiveness of a decade back cubing world as plumber. And call the timeline as the plumber area. Some loose conclusions that I can draw is that it was easier to break records and farm records in that era.

Is there any proof of when this coinage started?

I got the answer. It has a basketball reference, when in the 1970s there were no pro basketball players and majority of them were part timers for example plumbers who had free time to practice.
