I’m currently averaging about 1:20 with the 3x3 and thinking about moving on to the 4x4. I’m just curious, when did you guys move on? Should I try to get sub 1 minute on the 3x3 first?

(I am aware about the 2x2 and have one on the way, but I’m not concerned that being too much of a problem).

If you feel like learning a new puzzle then go for it. 3x3 to 4x4 is probably the biggest step up in terms of difficulty (after learning 3x3 itself) but that's no reason not to do it. Good luck.

I would say when you feel confident enough to tackle a bigger cube. To save some cash i would get a 4x4 and a 5x5 combo pack. You will eventually wanna tackle a 5x5. Their is not much really more to learn solving bigger cubes then a 3x3 besides a few parity issues is about it. I find the 5x5 easier to solve then a 4x4. But when you can solve them with confidence you will be able to solve any big cube without the need to learn anything new. The biggest cube i have ever solved is a 8x8, but i know that i am able to solve a 13x13

Which cube should I get? This is going to be my first cube, but I’m on a limited budget, so whatever I get I’ll have for a while (I don’t mind spending money now, but I can’t be buying a new 4x4 in about a months time, so I need it to last a while)

Really it doesn't matter if you are not willing to buy a premium cube in the beginning. Any speedcube will work out well when starting out. I had a shengshou as my first 4x4, but wouldn't maybe recommend that. I got a kungfu cangfeng pretty quickly, and can recommend that for starting out. Will work fine for several months. Mf4/mf4s is probably just as good.

They are really cheap in magiccubemall

So no matter which one you'll buy for starting out. Just get a wuque if you want it to last really long. But it's not a big deal to order a new one after a couple months.

Hello, thanks. I meant it the other way though. I am willing to buy a premium cube to start off (no more Thant £15 idealy) but don’t want to have to get another cube soon.

Also, that’s the difference between mf4 and mf4s

One of my friends recommended Moyu weisu. How does this compare to theWuque. Also, what’s the difference between the MF4 and MF4S

Noooo So i just realized i ordered a Weisu by mistake. Facepalm. I know it seems like i did it on purpose, but it was a complete accident. i feel so stupid.

Anyway, whats the best method for solving a 4x4 anyway, is there loads of methods like for the 3x3 or is there 1 method which everybody uses??

It's fun. I did 4x4 in less then 20 days after I did my first 3x3. Learn it as soon as you feel like you are ready, and if you are really feeling up to a challenge, do what I did and learn it from a paper in some other language.

Don't worry about getting a Weisu by accident. I used to have one, and while there are better cubes now it's by no means a bad one.

As far as method, redux is simplest: just solve centers, pair up edges, solve f2/3l, fix parities, solve LL. Most people switch pretty quickly to Yau or Hoya, which are redux with some steps reordered. I personally recommend Yau. There are other methods, but in terms of popularity and viability as a speedsolving method I would compare Yau to CFOP, Hoya to ZZ, and redux to Roux. That's not saying the methods are similar, they're just similar in how popular and practical they are. Yau and Hoya have similar ergonomic restrictions, which work fine on 4x4 but become increasingly difficult on bigger cubes. Consequently most people use redux on 6x6 and 7x7, and I think most use redux on 5x5 as well. I recently switched from Yau to redux for 5x5.
