I went from nüb to sub 10 at Skewb a day after I got it in the mail. I got sub 7 in the week after.

5x5 is a much longer event where improvement takes a lot longer, which makes everything so much more rewarding

5×5 !!!!!

also, get a Meilong V2 6M 6×6 ($18 USD)
bcoz it is fun & uses the algs from 5×5 and parity algs from 4×4
and also bcoz doing a bigger cube always makes the smaller bug cube easier👌✅😎
Yeah I never practise 5x5 but I get faster because I practise 7x7

Here are my personal thoughts on each event you don't do-

5x5-7x7- Just big cubes, quite popular but not for me. I just don't like how long they are.

Skewb- The beginner method is just spamming sledges, and the turning is hard to get used to. A much better event at a high level, but I'm not a fan.

Clock- I don't really like it, the beginner method is too easy and repetitive. Some people love Clock though, it's definitely worth trying.

Megaminx- Again slightly too long and repetitive for me, but kinda fun.

Square 1- Really fun, really hard.

3BLD- Not as hard to learn as it looks(although I won't claim that it's easy), but really rewarding, fun and interesting. Awesome event.

4BLD/5BLD/MBLD- You need to know 3BLD first.

FMC- A fun thing to do occasionally, although for most people not a serious event to practice.

I’m surprised such profanity is allowed on the forums, but I wholeheartedly agree

Oooh, Yeah, Nah.

I just can't be arsed to learn algs unless I really have to.
The only algs involved in 5x5 Yau is parity and the edge flipping alg which are also used in Redux. I would highly recommend using Yau for 5x5 and learning 5x5 in general. 5x5(especially with Yau) is extremely fun and interesting event.
