When I watch top cubers doing solves, I'm amazed by the turning speed. My own speed is really slow in comparison.

I decided to set up a prepared solve and find out exactly how much of an effect my turning speed is having on my overall times. I took the following scramble:
B' U L2 F2 L' F2 U' F' D2 F' R2 D' B R D' F R2 D B2 U F2 R2 D R B'

I solved it over and over the same way, trying to see how fast I could get it. After a few times, the solution was memorized, so look-ahead was no longer a factor. It just comes down to raw execution speed and move count.

The first time that I attempted this scramble, I got a time of 23.51, and after numerous attempts, I finally got a personal best of 17.98.
My solution was 63 moves (32 f2l, 31 LL), and it used 4 cube rotations.

I figure my turning speed to be 3.5 tps.

3.5... that just seems, so pathetic. I imagine most fast cubers would get twice that.
Is there any way that I can work on this and get faster? Is turning speed only going to come with more practice or is there some way I can train it?

I got 17.08 my first attempt, which is very slightly better than what I usually get. Work on doing your F2L in less moves. Usually my whole solve is between 45-55 moves.

ok, you got some pretty nice cubes, you should learn fingertricks.

My best on it was 9.88 ( I average around 20 seconds).
Solution:
Double X-Cross: U2 Rw U2 Rw' U2 R U R' y' U Lw' U Lw
F2L: y2 U2 R' U' R U' R' U R
U2 y L' U2 L U L' U' L
OLL: U2 Rw U2 R' U' R U' Rw'
PLL: U' L' U2 L U L' U2 R U' L U R'
Moves: 48
Time: 9.88
TPS: 4.86

I doubt working on my F2L could get it that low when the LL alone was taking up 31 moves. I use 3-look LL by the way.

If he didn't know finger tricks, how could he have a 24 average?
Peeling the stickers.

Seriously, are you TRYING to **** me off?

Lol. anyway back on topic, 3.5 is pretty good, if you want to get better i think advanced fingertricks will help.

Who are you?

first try was 15.71
49 moves

second time 12.61
third 14.78
fourth 14.96
12.01
10.52
10.76
9.72
9.83

so 49 in 9.72 is about 5 moves per second

my best time is 12 seconds, have gotten it 4 times.

obviously I am better than you and the advice I can give you is to just solve more. Practice. I have never done anything special to practice solving, just keep solving it. I know all OLL and all PLL. Find new moves for your F2L. I am still finding faster ways to solve some cases. You will eventually get faster.

What are these advanced fingertricks you speak of? I didn't think fingertricks could get any more advanced. (Cept for Teller :p)

When i say advanced i mean like combos and like really hard ones.

?
