transition from petrus to fridrich (x-cross, maybe?)

sorry, had to start a new thread. and I have to put it in the beginner section because well, I am a beginner at fridrich.

I never learned the 'beginner method'. I started cubing with petrus. long story behind it. and petrus got me to a little more than 30s average. with petrus I have almost zero delay (except when I have to figure out the LL corner positions) because I look ahead one piece at a time (so it's quite a 'beginner' petrus since I build blocks piece-by-piece, so 80-90 moves on average, yes I know that's a lot). oh yeah, I was also color neutral from the start.

now I wanna go to fridrich since I figured I couldn't go any faster with petrus. and fridrich's killing me. okay these are my sources of frustration:

1. it's so hard to be color neutral
2. it's so hard to see the cross on the bottom
3. it's so hard to even see the full cross in 15s
4. I build the cross in like 6-7s
5. F2L is so algorithmy, very un-intuitivy
6. it's very very hard for me to track 2 pieces at a time, and I never seem to find the second piece in time anyway, hence HUGE delay between slots (I find corners first because of the obscenely obvious white then I try to track the corresponding edge piece, is this a good approach?)
7. I've tried going slow with a metronome but I just couldn't spot both c-e pieces (sometimes even when they're connected on U! is this a mental retardation?) in time because while I'm slotting in one pair, the pieces move around, so how do I track the other two pieces while slotting in one pair?
8. just a thought: would it be okay to build a 2x2x2 then position the other two edge pieces to form an x-cross? I always use about 10-15 moves this way :( also, which two edge pieces to position is also a problem since I have 6 choices (most of the time I find one edge piece and can't spot the other in time)
9. let's not talk about LL yet 'cause I've got a feeling this list will never end

sorry for this long long post, but I'm really helpless (and hopeless) in fridrich. pointers from anyone who's been through this transition?

It's possible to average below 50 moves. You seriously need to do some solves without timing, just concentrating on minimizing the move count.

No need to switch to Fridrich, you have plenty of room for improvement.

but doesn't that mean I have to look for the best piece to add to my block each time? and doesn't this in turn mean long delays between pieces? or am I supposed to build like 3 or 4 pieces a time?

also about that sub-50 move average, is it possible with only intuition for F2L and 3-look LL? for a start, I build my first 2x2x2 around 10 moves or so :( any ideas where I can get more block building techniques other than petrus' site? or is it 'the best'?

edit: oh yeah, and thanks a million for the "you have plenty of room for improvement" morale booster, appreciate it :) I'll forget fridrich for the moment and concentrate on petrus! but just out of curiosity, is it possible to sub-20 with petrus? I think petrus himself can't if I remember correctly... are you a petrus user yourself? if not, could you recommend any sites or people within this forum with information on the petrus method? thanks.

Solving only one piece at a time will not get you very far. Sure it's easy to have a very high turning speed that way, but it doesn't compensate enough for the extra moves.

Not sure how much you lose because of 3-look, but move count isn't too important in LL anyway. For F2L you don't need algs, and a good goal is maybe 25-30 moves.

It's the best (almost only) website about Petrus. But you can learn by yourself, just be patient and keep practising.

I also wrote optimal solvers for Step 1 and Step 2 a while ago.
