The Solve Critique Thread

from the looks of it he has some type of dayan, best guess is a white zhanchi so that might not be it.

EOLine i guess be able to plan it out a bit more, as in not have to look too much or think while doing it because it should be planned out before you solve. Then yeah there's lookahead, which with ZZ is pretty easy since everything is oriented and you're not required to keep the cross edge in the bottom face, should be relatively easy to move things around or even get a sense of where everything should be.

I agree with your points. You're losing a lot of time in F2L looking for cases (and solving them, for that matter, but that gets better with practice). Look-ahead is always a good thing to keep in mind, but you can't get good at it without tons of practice and slow solves. Also, remember that you can't look-ahead during an F2L case that requires focus to execute, because if try you'll either mess up the case or execute it extremely slowly. Inversely, you must have the case you're currently executing almost to muscle memory before you can free up your conscious mind to start looking for the next two pieces. I recommend CrazyBadCuber's videos on look-ahead:

Thanks for your advice, and for the video links also.

Can someone give me tips?

Here is me solving :

Any tips would be nice :]

You say you average 26, but you give us a vid of an 18s solve. If you want advice on what you're doing badly, show us a normal solve, not a good one :)

Slow down, stop rushing. You are jittering around, tryng to be as fast as possible, and because of this you make some unnecessary moves. Just take it slow and only move when you know what you are going to do.

I will post a video later, but for now I have to use my mom's computer for a few weeks which is extremely slow. Can't even handle youtube :3

Been stuck around the mid 20 average and low 20 average. Mostly mid 20 average though like 25 or 24 secs. This 24 second time is normally what I get. The 3 times I get the most are 24,25, and 26. The only time I really get in the high 20's is if I have an unlucky or tough case that I perform slowly. Sorry I couldn't do an average of 5 but I had to do 3 takes do to constant out of frame recording. My parents were using the computer so they only let me use it for a few secs to scramble it really quickly :( I might upload an average of 5 when I get the chance if this solve doesn't show much to you guys.

Tell me what I'm doing wrong please! I have my own ideas, but I'd like some outside advice as well.

Cool computer but anyway, I notice you insert an f2l pair really quickly then pause and search for the next one. You could try to reduce your turning speed for f2l to the point where you can track pairs then go all out on oll and pll.

Don't do U moves searching for pieces to pair. Also, it's better to use left index for U' rather than right thumb. I can't really tell but it seems like you're using a lot of moves. Probably need to work on efficiency in pairing. Shouldn't take more than about 7 moves for each pair. My two cents.

You seem to overuse your right hand - doing U' with your right thumb is generally not a good idea because you can't easily do R moves afterwards. Work on doing stuff with your left hand more.

Also you seem to be doing a lot of unnecessary U moves. Maybe work on your recognition/lookahead so you don't have to search around the cube before every alg.

Out of interest, do you always do green cross or are you colour neutral?

Thanks and I always do green cross since I started with the pogobat/Dan Brown's "How to Solve a Rubik's Cube" tutorial and he solves on the green cross and I've been doing that ever since. Because of that, I have slow recognition for f2l pairs if I do any other color. Should I work on my recognition for oll, pll, or both?

By efficiency in pairing, do you mean like learning algorithms for certain f2l cases

Your F2L could use the most work. You'll naturally get faster at ll recognition. Also, stop the timer correctly - you have to drop the cube i.e. you can't stop the timer while holding the cube.

Y U NO TAKE INSPECTION SRSLY?!?

The least you could do is PRETEND to inspect the cube for ~14 more seconds.

I did inspect it?

Thanks :3 Yea, haven't been to a WCA competition for a year so kinda forgot most of the rules and I developed a habit of holding the cube and stopping the timer. Tried using the left hand for U', feels awkward but I will probably get used to it. Although when actually being timed solving, I still have that habit of using the thumb for U'
