that's some weird notation on NxN!

It´s actually deliberate.

For a 4x4x4 cube, the move d has two different meanings in two different notations, which can lead to unnecessary confusion between the simulator creator and the reader if the reader is using the different notation (the reader could find creator´s notation weird).

For a 3x3x3 cube, the simulator supports several notations - see the move parameter section. For simplicity, consistency with the 3x3x3 simulator and to avoid unnecessary confusion between the reader and simulator creator, other cube sizes support the notation as mentioned under the "Show move character set for a cube size other than 3x3x3" button in the move parameter section.

You can also hide the textual representation of the move sequence using the movetext parameter and show only the move sequence itself.

You can also insert text comments (e.g. regarding your notation) using the brace characters as shown in the move parameter section.

Edit: the sign parameter is now available, so you don´t have to use advanced modifiers (weird notation).
