The WCA Software Team is getting very close to launching the new Registration System. They want everyone to pitch in to try and CRASH IT!

At 8pm ET on Monday 19th August (24:00 UTC), registration will open for Crash This Comp 2024 on our test server:

We'd like as many people as possible to try and register when that registration opens - as if registration for a really popular competition has just opened. Here's what you'll need to do to participate:

1. Go to Crash This Comp 2024

2. Click "Sign In", and then "Sign in using your WCA account" - this will log you into our test website

3. You should be redirected back to the competition - if not, go back to it.

4. Submit your registration!

(Definitely not just Roman’s message copied over to here)

I think we successfully crashed it?

I pressed the register button and it acted like nothing happened. I tried filling in a comment and still nothing. Pressed it 10 or 20 times, then started trying to navigate away and got a timeout. Now I can't even get back on the registration page.

Edit: Tried again a few minutes later and now (after about 10 seconds of being unresponsive and showing no indication I had clicked) I got a page saying I was awaiting approval. So it did finally work.

Edit 2: I just realized the page's appearance changed once I was accepted - instead of 2 steps, now there were 3. So I'm guessing they changed the page in between those attempts?

I believe it's been like that since at least yesterday, I looked at the page for other open comps and it showed 3 steps
That may be, but when I initially pressed the Register button (before being acknowledged as registered), it only showed 2 steps (it didn't show the first Requirements step). Once it took my pressing the button, it then showed 3.

3rd step is just waiting approval, I'm guessing it doesn't show up until you register

Eventually the errors stopped happening. I did get accepted eventually; currently there are 124 people "registered".

Seems like it struggled but eventually sort of worked. Hopefully it gave them enough information to make it work better.

This was fun; I love that our community spends this kind of effort to try to provide quality software. Much credit to the software team.

When I first loaded the page, it showed 2 steps: "Register" and "Approval", even though it had the checkbox for me to agree to the requirements. It did not show the "Requirements" step, but it already showed the "Approval" step.
Then once I checked the box and then registered, it showed 3 steps, including the "Requirements" step.
