did any of you take a break from cubing for a month or more? How much did your average change? Were you able to get it back to what it was before? and how long did it take? Did you have to re-learn some algorithms because you forgot them?

I am taking a break from cubing for one month now, because of an overseas immersion programme. The immersion programme just started yesterday, i'll update you one month from now ;)

I think it depends on where you are at in your times. I remember reading about someones report coming back to cubing after 2-3 years. They were in the 16 sec range (3x3), and when they came back they were around 24. It took about 5 months to get back down to 16. Then again, if you are around 1 minute, it couldn't take too long, because it doesn't take long to get into that place in the first place.

i agree with pjk, the better you are the harder it is to maintain that skill level
the longest i've gone w/o cubing is probably one week, it affected my average by a couple seconds, which at that time was normally around 21-22

A couple of seconds in one week
For me would mean that I would slow done a couple of seconds every week, just to get them back by doing the weekly competition. (I often don't cube for an entire week)

i took a break from about june to august of this year. probably added about 10 seconds to my average of ~38.

As stated before, it just depends on how advanced you are, it is still possible to get faster just playing with it a few hours a week, so there's nothing to fret :D

this is more of what I expected, but I wasn't expecting it to take 5 months to get back to 16 seconds from 24 seconds! That's almost as slow as if you would progress normally from 24 seconds to 16 seconds for the first time! bummer
