Learn advanced f2l, get really fast at it(muscle memory), and then look ahead.

Lookahead shouldn't be learnt at that level. Most top cubers agree that it is almost completely useless until sub 20. Just focus on planning an efficient cross, practicing f2l a lot and drilling your algs to improve consistency.
