[Help Thread] Square-1 Discussion

That depends, what method are you using? What 6 do you know? How do you do cubeshape?

I assume the answer to the last one is put all the edges on U. I would say when you are between 35 and 45 seconds average to start learning cubeshape. Also, assuming you are using vandenberg, you can easily be sub 30 with just adj-adj, opp-opp, adj-opp and a parity alg.

Andrew, what do you use for O-adj?

honestly, you can get sub30 on sq1 with next to no algs. i'd say to learn opp/opp, adj/adj, and maybe a Uperm. plus you can do z and h pretty intuitively with m2.

@vcuber13: I use the ones on Lars' site. i've tried looking for something better but haven't been able to find anything even halfway decent.

I use / (3,0) / (1,-4) / (4,2,) / (-3,0) / (6,0) / (-4,0) / (-2,0) / (-4,-2) / (-1,-2,) / (-3,-3) / (0,-1) / (-5,1,) / ((-3,0) /
I know it's long, but it works for me.

Can someone point me out to an advanced Cubeshape text tutorial? I need to refer to the videos again and again to learn, and that hassle wouldn't be there with a text tutorial. Thanks in advance.

I'm really struggling with cubeshape, the group corners method is quite high on movecount, and the advanced method is kinda tough to remember/understand. I did a 1:45 avg12, although it was very inconsistent (six sub-1:20s and six sup-2:00s iirc). Tips would be appreciated.

First, if you average over 45 seconds there is no need to learn how to do cubeshape. Just practice solving so you get to know the steps better, and can turn the square 1 better.

I don't know of a text tutorial, but there is a few sites that map cubeshape. I would suggest watching the video a few times, and if you cannot follow it go to one of the maps. There is this one, http://andrewknelson.com/square-1-full-cubeshape/, and also Mike has a cubeshape table on his square 1 blind site. I think there is a link in his signature.

So in other words I should continue with the group-corners way until I average 45 seconds?

Thanks for the link, will surely try optimizing some easy-to-recognize cases from there. I do know some basic shapes. Some really bother me.

Also, is there an alg list for 1-looking orientation? I'm obviously not planning to learn it now, just curious.

EDIT: Found it, Square-1 AO... what does AO stand for?

How many EPs should I know at my level? I know adj-adj, opp-opp, both Us, H and Z.

Sorry for asking a lot of questions, thanks.
