[Help Thread] Square-1 Discussion

1. You mean EP? XD
I did mean EP. Typo, lol.
Learn any cases you find annoying, for me it's Z-adj and adj-z
Isn't that parity EP? I do parity before CP :|
3. Up to you, if you learn parity cp then your ep will be faster. I don't use parity cp because the long algs basically eat up the saved ep time.
How will my ep be faster? :S And do you suggest I learn it or not?[/QUOTE]

Method-wise, you know a lot. People have gotten sub-20 average with less than that.

3) Parity CP is really nice, and not too many algs to learn. I'd say go for it: it'll make your EP step so much easier, if only because you'll never need to do that god-awful pure parity alg.
I still don't get how it will make my EP faster :S I do parity before CP anyway.
Out of the three which is best?
Parity -> CP -> EP
Parity CP -> EP
CP -> Parity EP
[Considering parity exists in that solve]

If you're already doing parity before CP, then parity CP is a no-brainer. It means you're combining two discrete steps into one, sort of like asking if 1-look PLL is better than 2-look.

Now, if you're compariing Parity CP -> EP to CP -> Parity EP, that's a bit more difficult to quantify. As far as number of algs go, Parity CP is definitely less: 8 parity CP algs, and 48 EPs, versus 99 EPs. Also, the worst parity CP is about the same length as some of the best parity EPs, and of course the nonparity EPs are almost all better than the parity EPs (meaning you're learning the best 48 out of those 99).

The biggest downside of parity CP is the recognition time. It takes a bit more time to recognize parity CP, but in my opinion it's still worth it. Even when there's no parity I can look ahead and see EP before I even start the CP alg.

That made it much easier. Thanks.
Would learning all the 48 EP's be worth it? Or just combing some EP's to solve the other ones is enough? (Comparing to; how 1look Pll is obviously better than 2look).

for recognition, i can check about 3/4 of pbl for parity while doing eo and can predict ep pretty good while doing cp

And this comes with practice or technique?

Not too clear on what it's exact purpose.
Do you use this table to make one look PBL ?
or is it just for forcing nice cases.

I'm trying to figure out what my average movecount is, so I eventually plan on filling in actual algs here. For now, it simply shows the method I use to solve each PBL case, and gives me a nice visual on how many bad cases there really are. It's a work in progress, I just couldn't think of anywhere else to post it.

For those of you that fix parity during Corner permutation.
Whenever I get a CP skip with parity I am dumbfounded. Should I use a nasty parity alg and then finish Ep or should I memorize all the parity Ep's just in case.

They're all pretty nasty. I usually just use the pure adj swap, although you could learn something a bit nicer like opp/H (using that as your "solved/solved" parity CP). I also know all 4 O-perms, but other than that I haven't learned any other Parity EPs.

Hello .!
I avg just below 30 and just got to this mark.
1)i pretty much use the scallop kite method for cubeshape
2) know all the EO's, all CP's
3) EP's i knw adj-adj,opp-opp,H,Z, opp-O ,O-opp adj parity and opp parity
i take arnd 10 secs for cubeshape and begin with EP around 18-20 secs

and most of the times i get a parity i end up getting 30+ solves.
What next should i do to improve!! ??

You should work on your cubeshape. Learn some optimal shapes that shouldn't use the scallop-kite method for, like shield-square. There are some websites you can use for some annoying cases. You can see http://hem.bredband.net/_zlv_/rubiks/sq1/shape-depth.html

thanks a lot! and yea i considered shifting to parity CP having loads of trouble recognizing it is there any good guide to get me through recognizing it??
more over a few algs i found on the forum are not finger friendly and i m in search of better CP parity algs aswell and do u guys recommend shifting to it ?
i got my algs frm http://www.speedsolving.com/forum/showthread.php?9512-Square-1-Parity-Algs

Ann brandbest to be true i am a fan of urs!! :) following u a lot on youtube lately ! :D ur vids are of grea help to me

Recognition for parity CP can be tricky, although you'll get used to it after a while. Do you know PLL for 3x3? If so, it's basically the same as recognizing whether you have PLL parity on 4x4 (twice). If you don't, I posted a sorta-walkthrough earlier in this thread: here. If both layers have "PLL Parity", or if neither layer does, then you do a normal CP alg. If only one of the layers has parity, then you do the parity CP alg instead.

As for better algs: those are pretty much the best I've been able to find, although there are two posted by TobiasD on the last page of the thread you linked which are really nice, and which I have since switched to.

yea i knw all the pll on 3x3x3 i was goin through u link http://crunchatize.me/ and got confused on the notations etc!!
and yea i was even goin through MTGjumpers excel sheet fo CP parity algs maybe i would do them frm there!
moreover is this the right stage to shift to CP parity ? or sud i wait a bit cz ppl have great timing evn without it?

Strange but Parity CP dropped my average by like 10 seconds! It took a day to learn all of them and another couple of days for getting used to recognition.
You should definitely learn it.

EDIT: The algs from the excel sheet are quite fingertrick-friendly.

The CP parity algs are on my list of algs were the best ones that I could find that suited my fingertricks. I didn't bother learning CP parity though because some cases took me really long to recognise.
