[Help Thread] Square-1 Discussion

ive never seen this anywhere
double N
/-3,-3/0,-3/-3,-3/-1,-3/-4,2/4,-2/1,0/-3,-3/ [9,23]

does anyone know what is twist/face optimal?

Twist yes, face no.
Sq1optim found some [9|22]
/3,3/5,0/-4,2/4,-2/4,0/3,3/0,-3/-3,-3/ [9|22]
/3,3/-1,0/-4,2/4,-2/-2,0/3,3/0,-3/-3,-3/ [9|22]
/3,3/0,3/3,3/0,-4/2,-4/4,-2/-5,0/-3,-3/ [9|22]
/3,3/0,3/3,3/0,2/2,-4/4,-2/1,0/-3,-3/ [9|22]

@blade740: I read somewhere you were going to make 6 stages for your tutorial. What happened?

Was looking for a better U+/W and found this yesterday:
/-3,-3/0,-1/-2,0/-2,0/-2,-2/0,2/2,0/-2,0/2,0/-1,-2/-3,-3/-3,0

Hello.
After little practice, I'm sub-50 now.
I have a few questions:
1) EO's I know: adj/adj, opp/opp, U(CC)/solved, solved/U(CC),H,Z,O(CC and C)/Opp, Opp/O(CC and C)
I guess I need to learn the clockwise U's and opp/adj, adj/opp.
Now, after I learn them are there anymore important EO's I should learn? Or can I progress with these till I get to better times?
2) Any good algorithm for single edge swap? I use (0,-1)/(-3,0)/(4,1)/(-4,-1)/(3,0)/. It's good but is there nothing shorter?
3) Should I learn parity CP or again, should I just practice for now?
4) Algs for U/U (C/C, CC/CC, C/CC, CC/C)?
5) I know about 8-12 basic cube shapes and I use the kite/scallop method for the ones I don't know. Is it required to learn other cubeshapes?

Thanks :)

1. You mean EP? XD
Learn any cases you find annoying, for me it's Z-adj and adj-z
2. Yeah, i think that's the old-fashioned alg, you could try 1,0/3,0/3,0/-1,-1/-2,1/-3,0/
3. Up to you, if you learn parity cp then your ep will be faster. I don't use parity cp because the long algs basically eat up the saved ep time.
4. don't learn c/cc or cc/c, just do two adj/aj and you'll be fine
C/C=(both at right) 1,0/5,-1/-3,0/1,1/-3,0/
CC/CC=(top at left, bottom at right) 1,0/3,0/-1,-1/3,0/-5,1/
5. Some other cubeshapes are better when you memorize the alg for them. I used mike hughey's square-1 bld cubeshape list to learn some. I also learned a cubeshape from watching simon crawford's vids :)

Method-wise, you know a lot. People have gotten sub-20 average with less than that.

1) Yeah, learn those ones, plus all of the U/Us, and W/adj
2) That's the same alg I use. I like it.
3) Parity CP is really nice, and not too many algs to learn. I'd say go for it: it'll make your EP step so much easier, if only because you'll never need to do that god-awful pure parity alg.
4) for the "parallel" ones, I just do opp/opp then adj/adj. For the other ones, the algs brandbest1 posted above are the same I use (these are actually just a move-cancelled opp/opp to adj/adj anyway)
5) It's not required, but you'll end up doing it automatically as you go along. If you get a shape that annoys you, go to this chart and figure out a better way to do it. Eventually you'll realize that you do most of them optimal (or nearly optimal) without even trying.

Since Andrew uses that EO alg, I'm switching :P
