Has anyone noticed that the solution-hints guide that comes with the 3x3x3 cube(distributed by Hasbro) has some valuable speed-solving algorithms in it? It teaches the Sune, a commutator, and F2L edge permuters. When I was using that system I was able to get a time of 1:07- though the system requires a minimum of 141 moves so I would not reccommend it for speed-cubing. But it is a pretty good system to learn some algrithms as a beginner.

I think it is equal to most beginners guides on the net today. However, as far as speedcubing algs go, that depends on who you are and what your preference is, since diff. algs work better for different people.

I loathe that solution it gives.

the problem i see with it is while its easy, to get faster, (i.e. switch to a CFOP solving method) it takes a lot to make that switch, at least thats what i've seen and it is very annoying.

Yeah, I had to shake off the habit of using the commutator( R' D' R D) to orient and permute the corners. And it was kind of hard switching to the Keyhole method after learning it. And the LL is almost completely different from what I use now(3-Look LL).
