Is there any JARCS-type tool for practicing layers? Mine are probably inefficient (still not practiced much though to be fair), but they're hard to see sometimes and some tool which shows optimal solutions for all 6 choices of layer would help.

As far as I know, there isn't a program for it. That being said, I tend to find pretty much optimal layers, if you want feel free to send me scrambles and I'll explain how I would solve the layer.

I usually track the U center during the sledge or sledge (y rotation) sledge used in solving the U corners. For me that just came with practice and solving untimed. I can not predict where its going to be but I watch it during the alg. Don't know how to predict the L4C case though (to an extent) sometimes I see a pi corners case and an opposite color somewhere (if the sledge is going to solve the u center) Just practice I can't really tell you everything because I just learned it from paying attention to what happens to pieces while solving.
