[Help Thread] Skewb Discussion

If you think that 24 solves of a new method is going to be an indicator of how well you're doing, you're gonna have a bad time.

Lol I know. I think I overeacted.... Anyway, I saw the mod on the Moyu Skewb that Cubeologist posted (the one that involves cutting a little bit off the springs to make the bearings have more space. Is that mod worth it?

Personally, as I had a lanlan, I just removed the springs and swapped them, I think this does about the same. It does make it less clicky.

What do you people do when you get a U perm in the left hand or to the back?
Do you rotation and uperm spam?

or do you learn to use your left hand and learn a U from the back alg?

You can just do sledge from the back to do both U perms without rotating. Sledge-on-front + sledge-on-back is the normal U perm, or sledge-on-back + sledge-on-front is the reverse U perm.

To do a U perm from the side, I kind of just grip the cube from the side with my right hand and do a y or y' rotation while I do the first sledge.

Does anyone have an alg/trick that skips Z perms, or gives you a U perm, when a hedge/sledge would give you a Z perm?
(Sarah's intermediate)

algs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHizDYxQgnM

only sledges/hedges:
sledge and 2 corners on U match the U center (headlights on back): hedge y hedge y' sledge y hedge
hedge and 2 corners on U match the U center (headlights on back): hedge y' sledge y sledge y' sledge
sledge and 2 corners on U are opposite U center: (headlights on front): hedge y' hedge y sledge y' hedge
hedge and 2 corners on U are opposite U center: (headlights on front): hedge y sledge y' sledge y sledge

I just do sledge/hedge then Z perm though...

Ok, some stuff about my skewbing.

I've been skewbing for about a month now, with about 1000 solves or so, and I'm at around 7-10 seconds with Sarah Intermediate.

I use a Moyu Skewb on sort of loose tensions and no ball bearings.

I found some better algs (for me) for H and Z, and I even made my own method (see Skrouxb Method). If you want to know my Z perm, it's l (triple sledge) l'. My H perm is hard to explain in algs, so I'll have to make a video for that sometime soon -- but I can sub-1.5sec the alg :) .

Any tips on getting sub-5? I see a lot of people getting sub-5 and I can't help but wonder how.

Practice and learn a few common advanced cases. I would recommend the pure peanut set.
