I've recently learnt EOLine from the ZZ method, but have been using the Fredrich Method. Average is abt 1min18, mainly coz I have not memorised the full OLL yet.

Is the EOLine and F2L from ZZ faster than the Fredrich one? If so I might familiarise myself with the EOLine and use the OLL and PLL to finish the last layer.

welcome to the forums! can you give us a breakdown of your solves? (ex cross is 2 seconds, f2l is 10 sec, oll is 3 seconds, pll is 2 seconds.)

I'm afraid there is no clear cut answer as to ZZ F2L or CFOP F2L being faster. I'm theory I guess ZZ should have a lower move count, but slightly more difficult to do optimally.
It should be noted that I don't think anyone in the top 100 uses ZZ, but that could just be because the method isn't as popular.
(if it could be easily quantified, I'd put my money on CFOP)

okay, the key to faster times at your stage is to work, work, work on f2l, that completely needs to be faster, i would do some more look ahead. and work on the speed of pll.

And always aim for efficiency... especially in F2L.
Don't worry about the last layer just yet, unless it's drastically slow.

And if in doubt of which one's faster (none of them are 'faster' imo... one's slightly more efficient but negligible really for you), learn both!

Well I do EOLine on the left then rotate. But I'll try the whole solve on the left now; might work.
Then again, RUD gives me horrors... But so does RUL so bleh... No point having a debate with myself lol :)

I wouldn't get too caught up with efficiency though (as in stuff like multislotting, etc). If you try to do something too complicated (even slightly too complicated), you might find out later that even though your solution is very good, you're actually holding yourself back due to lack of simplicity. The simpler the solution, the faster you can move, the less thought necessary, and in this way, you can focus more on your look-ahead.

Not to say that finding more efficient solutions is bad. Just don't overdo it. That's all.

Of course,

it's not good either to stick to inefficient solutions either. (yah, carrying on from your 'of course')

Yeh. Of course. I mean, you can even attempt to be efficient with just single slots. When I used to do cross on bottom (recently; of course still using Roux as my main method- switched to PRSCM only recently ;)) I used lots of Ms and rs. Now with cross and f2l on the left I do lots of rs and also Ms believe it or not. I try to be efficient and do x crosses wherever see the opportunity.

Now, despite all this, I'm still ridiculously slow (sub-25) due to my 10+ second last layer (CLL and two look ELL combined with horrible alg execution...).
So maybe as you described, not good to go overboard.

But anyway, to stop rambling on about myself to illustrate a point... Its good to try to be efficient but as teh crazy cubist said, don't go overboard when solving for speed.
Don't worry when just casually practicing as you'll be able to find efficient solutions and develop that aspect too.

And eventually, efficient solving will, too, become subconscious.

Cross is about 4 secs, F2L is about 30 secs, 2 look OLL is 5 secs, PLL abt 10 secs.

So your average is 1:18 but the breakdown of your solve is about 49 seconds? and how does 2Look OLL take half the time of 1Look PLL? This just makes me confused.

And if you do EOline, which takes a crapload of practice to do efficiently, you will already have the four edges of the last layer oriented the right way, so you will always get an OLL with four oriented edges. What would be the point of learning full OLL if you'd only encounter like 9 cases or so (I think)?

Do ZZ xD. I Avg 26 with cfop and 29 with ZZ. I've been practicing it for about 2 months and I can plan the line in about 8/9 seconds(color neutral).

ZZ also has 2 less algs for the first 2 layers as cfop.
But don't turn it into those slow blockbuilding methods xD

Wat. Nobody does ZZ color neutral

Not again...
@OP, it is probably in your best interests to ignore the post above mine. Doing ZZ F2L intuitively with blockbuilding can be extremely fast with practice.

Blockbuilding is intuitive!

Blockbuilding. Is. Not. Slow.

I don't care if I'm being a jerk, so just shut up! You are a horrible cuber who should just go away!
anyway, ZZ is meant to be a blockbuilding method.

Slow? Blockbuilding?
Come on, Jorghi. Not again. Not. Again.
I don't care if I'm being a jerk [or quoting the previous post to show I agree], so just shut up! You are a horrible cuber who should just go away! [or changing your ways for the better would be a bit better IMO, just sayin.]

Yeh, do not listen to any of Jorghi's words... Try blockbuilding yourself and see if you like it. Oh and for ZZ try blockbuilding first... You will gain a better understanding of the cube.
