[Help Thread] Pyraminx Discussion

i guess im a 6-7.6s average pyraminx solver and i can see some of the algos u use have typos in them, or you are just x2 them.

L R' L' R U R U' L' (the last L' brings you nowhere, change it to R')
CC Rotation: L' U L U L' U L (try R U' R' U' R U' R') as ur one still makes it clockwise.
C Rotation R U R' U R U R' (try using ur apparent CC one and yeah L' U L U L' U L)

for your two-flip try R' L R L' U L' U' L

but execute like this
R' L R L' [L] R L' R' L

THAT [L] just means to rotate as if you were turning the left face but just rotate puzzle. so instead of regripping tonnes. u only have to regrip once.

Pyraminx Finger Tricks

So I solve Layer By Layer, and I'm wondering, to complete the first layer do you guys do R U' R' or L R' L' R?

What I mean is, when your inserting a piece what alg you use

If the piece is already directly over the slot I usually use LR'L'R and if it's already off to the side I use RU'R'. For the last slot of the first layer you can change the way you insert the last piece to effect the last layer case you get and possibly skip last layer.

So a question to fast top-first pyraminxers: where do you recommend doing your top? I currently do my top on the top, but I find it very time consuming to have to turn the pyraminx upside down. I know a few people who do it on the left, so is that the best option?

a WCA-regulation update for july was posted and then deleted. One of the new regs was this:

Pyraminx must require at least 6 moves to solve (rather than 7), matching the number of moves in the current Pyraminx world record solution

Finally!

E: Back up now!

When I sometimes get easy tops during solves, I do it in facing away from me.

Does anybody have any tips on switching to a top-first pyraminx method from lbl? Right now I average around 7.5-8 seconds on pyraminx with lbl. I'm not sure whether I should learn all the top first methods (1-flip, oka, etc.) and try to integrate them into my solving all at once or learn and integrate them one by one. Thanks.
